it's a good game pianoblack, I'm not going to sit hear and say it's the best city building game ever, that would be a ridicules comment because it not, but it's worth the every bit of the $60 AUD I paid for it. Even if MC fall over, you still got a full 3d City building game that can be customize... so I would worry about if MC is going well or not. the game will allway get better, just look at SC4.

as for you second question, if your not into trading with other people (like me) then just stick to single player. but trading is not everything in PO they have other futures and content, and based on the last time I played PO (witch was some time ago) I had not problem crating a city with a little amount of trades

Thanks for the reply, mrdazza.  I was actually kind of hoping that MC would stop fully supporting this game, and hand content creation abilities over to the community... but that's a cruel thing to wish 4.gif

I'm one of those people who still think a city builder is best played at 4am locked in your room without interruptions from online things and trade deals, but I'm willing to try out the PO to see for myself if the 'online community' thing is any good.  I may have phrased it weirdly in my first questions (because I was a bit drunk haha) but what I meant to ask with the two of them was, 'are there enough players online who are regulars, who will not pull out of deals, for me to play without having to support my own cities with other cities?'

I guess another question that comes along with your answer to my second question is, is SP actually viable, with the lack of buses, inter-city trading and only having the big corp with which to trade?

so far i have not had issues with contracts, 650k pop with just under 110 contracts. You can get gaurenteed contract stability, but it costs quite a bit more.

The single player game has vastly improved.  Depending upon the map and your style of play is is possible to produce very nice cities in SP mode.  There are mods available.  But even without them it's still possible to make a multi million population city.  In SP contracts never expire( at least currently) and never fail.  I deleted a large farming map as a test and had 3 million credits in cash flow on an empty map.

Hi everyone, I'm thinking about getting CXL but I have some questions about it. I browsed over this thread and got a general idea of people's opinions about the game, but maybe things have changed a little.

The game looks pretty cool, but is there seriously no mass transit in single player? No mass transit AT ALL? If not, what's the likelihood of a mass transit GEM being released at some point in the future? I only ask because I can't imagine not having the option to have mass transit but maybe that isn't so bad...is it?

Could you just play sp and have an enjoyable experience, or is it lacking? I'm used to SC4 (love it, but looking for something newer) so what did other SC4 lovers think about CXL (ie the game mechanics, depth, manageability)? I'm not sure whether paying $9 a month is really worth it for me, but what do you guys think about what PO has to offer?

Lastly, has it improved much since its release? A lot of people were saying it felt like a beta, yet it was $40(?). The game looks like it has(/had) a lot of unrealized potential.

Fist of all I think it’s a good game, Mass transit is cool but it’s really not needed to make a good city, once you play the game you kinder forget it not even there, probably because you have more road options and that seems to make up for the short fall.  I can see why busses may work, but rally lets face it it’s a bus stop, so you can live without it. While CXL busses are very in-depth, (you can set buss routs and so on) you don’t need it to make your city,    as for trains I think they are a bit pointless in CXL anyway, the maps are just too small, it would be o.k  if you had a regions like in SC4 but we don’t. it would just end up as a wast of space, like what I think of highways, but that my opinion anyway,

You can play the game and it is enjoyable, but don’t start thinking it SC4, or SC5 for that matter, if you go in with that mind set you wont enjoy it, it is it’s own game. The main difference i see between the 2 game is CXL is very focused on transport and trading, and the actual processes of building of the city,   where SC4 is m ore focuses on the end product and making thing look nice.

You ask if the game is worth $9 a month, I can really answer that, it all depend of what you like in a City building game, if you are a transport nut and you like trading thing and interacting with other people, then you will like it, if you like to have complete creatively of your city’s then you may not like it.

Lastly, has it improved much since its release? A lot of people were saying it felt like a beta, yet it was $40(?). The game looks like it has(/had) a lot of unrealized potential.

My advise to you is don’t listen to “a lot of people”  a lot of those people have only played the demo or they have not played it at all,  “a lot of people” seem to just read the statements like “there’s not mass transit”  and instantly thinks well the game is crap, people act like the game can’t function with theses thing, yet if they have played it,  they would known it can, also “a lot people” seem to think that the game should be free, so they take a ignorant view and well, just read some of the post and logos on this site and you will see what I mean.

Another question, this one is technical (I am sold on the gameplay elements, but this one might be a dealbreaker): I have been reading more, and some folks complain about the game not wanting to run in some resolutions. They're not being very specific, so I have to ask... will this game run in 1920x1080 (16:9) with AA enabled, on a GTX 260?

Thanks for the in-depth reply mrdazza! It was really, really helpful. I was kind of worried that CXL was really designed to be played online so important elements would be missing from sp, but your reply cleared that up for me. I want to buy it now 9.gif

I do have one more question I totally forgot to ask on my first post, though, if anyone can help point me in the right direction. I thought it might be worth asking on here to get a more thorough answer in case there's more to it.

Are the minimum reqs given by mc accurate or would people say you can still run CXL decently if yours specs are lower (or do you actually need higher specs), and are there any particular technical conflicts people have experienced with it? (ie, are there any issues with certain graphics card or anything like that?)

(here are the reqs given by mc for reference)

Minimum System Requirements OS: Microsoft Windows XP, Vista or 7

Processor: Intel Pentium IV 2.5Ghz or AMD equivalent,

Laptop: Centrino 2

Memory: 1.5GB, Laptop: 2.5GB, 8GB HD Space

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT/ ATI X1600,

256 MB RAM
