Overloaded subway lines

It seems to me like while people make railroad and subway and bus stations with higher capacities, you never reach the maximum of those capacities before you hit a bigger problem. Your subway lines start showing "red", meaning 300% overloaded! This is especially the case in contested regions with a lot of residential going to a single large commercial office. So, how do you get higher-capacity tracks?

Also, I've done some testing with tracks running parallel to one another, but the load balancing is clearly not doing a good job of this, as one track may be under heavy capacity while the other track is barely touched.

due to the pathfinding method used in SC4, making a track run paralell to the side of another track doesn't work well. instead, have them branch off at an equal distance and THEN run paralell--like this:

----------{::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::}----------------

that way, hopefully the congestion will decrease.

as for high-capacity tracks, I would look online, either on the STEX or somewhere else.

    I see what you mean by branching off at equal distance, but the parts "before" the branching and "after" the converging are still one track, and therefore with this kind of system, what you'll see is a red track that goes all the way to the branch, and then green tracks inside the branch, and then a red track again when it converges. On the whole, that's probably still a bit better but...

    I wondered about that. I just started using the simulator Z and am waiting to see how it works...

    Traffic seems to be an unsolvable problem in the unmodified game...

    Yeah, running subway tubes side by side seems to work well in Simulator Z.. then again, they offer much higher capacity tubes so you'd need quite a few skyscrapers before you'll see your tubes turning red under the "Ultra" option..

    If you'd like to be using an unmodified game, try creating alternate lines for the sims to use. It's hard to tell you where to put them, as it depends on where your sims are going, but often creating a similarily distanced route will result in some pressure being taken off. And can get a bit more ridership too. 4.gif
