Stupid extraneous events are stupid and extraneous. The home run derby is exactly as worth watching as it is meaningful to any player's stats or any team's standings.

Similarly, this "Futures" game is not something I have heard of nor is it something I feel I should care about. Minor league games are uninteresting because they do not impact the outcome of the major league season, and exhibition games are just pointless in general. Give me a season, a set of playoffs, and a world series. Anything else, I don't give a damn.

I do think it's awesome that someone actually named their team the Albuquerque Isotopes, though.

It was actually noted at the time that, ironically, the first "World Series" was played between two teams that played in cities both within the northeastern US (Boston and Pittsburgh).

Here's the thing, though: in 1903, nobody outside of the US was playing baseball professionally. So, the US champions were, by default, the legitimate world champions.  Nowadays there are some other countries playing the game, so that's no longer true, but the name was never changed.

There actually is a baseball world cup, but it's mostly an amateur act. MLB players aren't allowed to participate. Cuba has won it 25 out of 38 times.

Then there's always the World Baseball Classic, which is more like what you'd think of as a "world cup", featuring professional players from around the world. There have only been two of them so far, though (both won by Japan).
