The Wii is a gimmick.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

You know, the last post on this page will be the 6,000th post of the thread. We're in the final stretch... to three-fifths of the way to ten thousand!

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

-Steen Eiler Rasmussen, 1898-1990 (SimCity 2000 User Manual).

The Wii was fun while it lasted but I'm glad she took it because it would just collect dust with me.

Welcome back, Blue.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is not a gimmick game. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is not a gimmick game.

Megaman 9 and Megaman 10 are not gimmick games either, although those were also released on XLA and PSN.

The Wii's gimmicks were meant to grab demographics that were previously off the market (children and elders). It can also do most of what the Game Cube can do also.

Well, children are the classic demographic for video games. This idea that adults play games came later, when the kids that were playing them in the 80's started growing up and kept playing.

Elders are a new market the Wii has successfully grabbed, though. My grandparents own a Wii. They also own a PS3, but it isn't used for games. My grandfather stores movies on it.

The second demographic that the Wii has grabbed is girls/women. Video games are traditionally for the most part a guy thing. The Wii has broken that trend.
