I did actually sort of have a CJ once.

All it really was was a thread where I posted pictures of my region as I played it and built it up. No story or anything like that... it never garnered much interest.

In 2003, this idea that someday threads would "drop off the page" and become invisible was never a thought that crossed my mind. Hell, that in 2010 this site would still be here and I'd still be sitting here posting on it never crossed my mind. When you're not even at something a year yet, beginning to push seven isn't something you think of or plan for, you know?

Even beyond this site, though, the whole idea of "save everything to archive it" really hadn't occured to me yet. There were two things that led to that habit. The first involved a comic strip known as "Mall Monkeys". I really liked it. I found it funny. One of my avatars back in the day was from it. Well, one day, the author decided to stop making the comic, and before I knew it, the domain registration expired and the site was gone. I had thought I'd lost it forever, but years later I discovered that someone had a ZIP archive of the comic that they'd uploaded.

The second involved an offhand comment made by someone on the forum for another comic strip, El Goonish Shive. They commented that they'd saved every strip to their hard drive. I read that and all of a sudden the idea was in my head. I went and did the same.

...but there was a problem. In those days, I didn't have my own computer. When my mother found out I had done that, she made me delete all of them, insisting she wasn't going to have me cluttering up her hard drive with my obsessive-compulsive hoarding. Though, other things of mine (screenshots and whatnot) never came under fire, and so I do still have some stuff from way back in the day.

It then wasn't until I got my own computer with my own hard drive that I really was able to go nuts with my "archiving".

I still play SC4. But then again I also played some Super Mario Bros. 3 yesterday. Sitting in front of the console trying to get the game to start was particularly interesting with the Wii staring down at me. Made me feel nostalgic and stupid all at the same time!
