There is PEG's artificial tree, which is based on real life technology, so that one isn't exactly a cheat. The other option is lowering the air-pollution through the reader, but that might take a while.

Korot

Hey...

I find one of the simplest non-cheating ways is to plant trees. Some Maxis structures will permit trees on the cement areas of the lot, perhaps leave a gap between areas for a row of trees, or even a greenbelt around your industrial area. The air pollution may not completely disappear in some cases, but you can control it. I've successfully had R$$$ close to dirty industry, separated by a thick greenbelt.

easiest way to reduce pollution is to educate the population so that you begin to develop the much less dirty manufacturing and finally hightech ...as they develop the pollution will drop to very low.. of course graduate to the solar power plant too in the process.. this takes a few years but really isn't that big a deal

The way I do it is a thick greenbelt around the general industrial sector, and I also leave one-tile gaps between industrial blocks that I plant with trees.

If there is pollution,I like to do a VERY thick greenbelt but not too much trees. You can also do one of the poster's theory above:More Education,Less Dirtier Industries.

Or:  More education, higher taxes on dirty industry, and occasional random demolition of your worst polluters just to let them know you mean business.

Clean air ordinance, educate sims more, and plant a bunch of trees and plop down a bunch of parks. Use the cleaner power buildings when you get them, and start with natural gas instead of oil or coal (less pollution, but a decent power output for your buck).

When it comes to typical industrial buildings, normally trees are enough. True increase education to get high tech industries is actually the ideal goal. But I'd like to keep a mix of I-M and I-HT.

Things change when you have say a CAM industrial building. There was one building which had 12000 I-M jobs. Took 6 air purification plants and 3-4 Water treatment plants. Big sacrifices there, but heh, the money is good. Now I dun think trees can save you in that scenario.

Or, bulldoze all the polluting industries in your city (minus high tech) then create a neighbor tile and place all your dirty industries there.

Other than what everyone else already helpfully said, I prefer to put my industries smack in a corner in an urban area...it gets rid of like 3/4 the pollution, a ring of trees if you don't prefer to do that, or if you're in the real rural areas looking for an industrial site, construct some sort of valley or canyon to sink the factories in, or a mountain in between that and your houses.
