Does anyone have any definate (and accurate) statistics on how many sims one large medical centre can treat?  My experience tells me that a large medical centre at full funding will cover about 40,000 sims.  Any thoughts?

in real life, I would say about 50,000 to 100,000 people(depending on the actual size, and sc4 size one would be closer to 50,000 in my opinion.)

-blaeksterville.

as far as teh game goes, I usually just start with one per area, and add more as capactiy becomes too low for my area needs. normally, I have several in an area.

I would agree, I tend to build my first one at 10,000 and it seems to serve fine until the city hits about 40,000 or 50,000 Sims. I find it incredibly annoying though that about 10% of your population is terminally ill, through every generation, as my city of 250,000 Sims has like 8 overcrowded hospitals. I refuse to give them more because my health budget is bleeding my city dry. (Pun intended)

I don't think all the hospital/clinic capacity is for the sick and injured - there's checkups and such to factor in as well.

I for one would just build the advanced disease research center once you get the chance - the radiation (likely caused by whatever method they use to fit a what could be a small city into that place all at once) isn't much of a problem if you give the center its own block - and I think it covers either all or a large portion of a city tile.

I have 6 large medical centers in a city of 300,000 all are very near capacity.

I have 0 ambulance funding but every coverage area sligtly overlaps the neigboring medical center on each side.

I have the disease research center treating a bunch of patients - I'm not sure of the importance of that.  I have the farmers market which hints at positive medical effect, but I'm not sure it relates to hospital capacity.  I do not have any ordinances for health.  I do have some pollution - not sure how that affects health/patients.
