Oh, industry quadrupler...

How I hate thee.  See, I downloaded this before I wanted to start a CJ, but now I do want to start one and my industrial areas are microscopic with all the jobs for each building.  Now I want bigger industrial areas, and the Industry Quadrupler isn't helping.  I tried removing it and Residential deman went into the toilet.  Is there any way to remove it without destroying your city?

Note that I have only two cities at the moment, one, the industrial one, and the other, the residential/commercial city.

Well of course Residential demand went into the toilet - there are 75% fewer industrial jobs now! But your solution is in fact what you want in the first place, is it not? Zone more industrial jobs... in neighboring cities if necessary. Yes, residential will tank meanwhile, might even have a lot of abandonment. But as the jobs build, the residents should come back. Almost like the coming and surviving of a severe economic depression, jobs dry up, residents suffer and leave, and the whole city goes to pot for a while. Will it ever fully recover? This process, itself, might actually make for an interesting CJ saga, actually. 44.gif

Note: just because a sim works in industry today doesn't mean he must tomorrow. They can all work in commercial just as well (or even civic jobs), depending on their education level. So you can also zone some or even all as additional commercial, if you prefer.

Keep in mind you'll probably have to rework a lot of your transportation, too. 75% of the workers currently going to industry jobs won't be going there any more... but they will (eventually) be going to the new jobs. Also, all those new jobs will require their own power (and maybe water), and produce their own pollution.

There's not much else you can do, really. The residents need jobs, and the jobs need residents. If you take a large chunk of either away, then you must say goodbye to the other as well... until your redevelopment efforts pay off. Might take a while, but I believe they will, and it would probably interesting to watch this transformation! Personally, CJ's that showcase not just a snapshot-in-time of a city, but a real evolution/transformation of a region, are much more interesting, to me anyway.

One completely unrelated option: there are several demand mods, any of which could probably be used to artificially keep your residential demand high, despite this whole process (though you'd still have to deal with transportation, power, pollution, etc...). To each their own, but personally, I think watching you transform the city "on its own" without using a demand mod would be much more interesting, and even educational (plus it was an "artificial inflation" type of thing that got you into this mess to begin with, remember? 2.gif )

Eh, I was more inclined to do something along the lines of slowly reducing the number of jobs for industry. Like using some-sort of program to bring one building at a time back to the normal numbers. Could that be done?

And when I just tried to get things back afloat using conventional means as you said above, the demand for I-D and I-M were still very negative. And all the Commercial demands were equally as low (except for C$, which was just a bit above zero). So basically I wasn't sure how to keep a city running with zero demand.

Just run the simulator for a few years in both cities. Hopefully, the demand levels will eventually go back into normal levels, and then you can finally begin expanding your cities again.

If things sour to the point of no return, just hit obliterate and start again - without an industry quadrupler.

Eh, I've always been against using the industry quadrupler.  I mean, massive industrial areas are really great looking with all their billowing smokestacks, just like the opening shot of the "Blues Brothers" movie!
