ironicepitome: Yes, looks like my humor has finally reached someone

Muck308: Yes, and more concrete walls are coming where that came from

Hawkeye9: My schedule is fairly accurate... except without all of the exciting activity and more checking Simtropolis.  And, San Paso is definately growing

    Update 26: Taming the River

Things have changed along the Rio Paso in the last 3 years.  Heavy irrigation has reduced the flow of the river.  The riverbed was lowered, and a stone wall has been constructed on both sides of the river.  Now, development heads up to right by the Rio Paso.

Here is an image along the Rio Paso.

    riopasowalls.jpg

In reality, only a small section of the Rio Paso has beened tamed.  However, it is the small section by San Paso, so that is why it matters.

Here is a view of the old 1870s bridge as it looks today.

    bridgev.jpg

After the wall was completed, some construction occured by the river.

    developmentnearriver.jpg

Meanwhile, in downtown, development is continuing.  Southern growth has been stunted by the mansions, forcing a more northeastern growth or maybe even some western growth in the future.

    stalledsoutherngrowth.jpg

In downtown, a road that is the main access into downtown for thousands has become clogged and unworkable.  Here is a view of the area about a year ago.

    beforeroadwidening.jpg

So, how did we solve the problem?  We widened the road... now known as Lincoln Avenue.

    widenedroad.jpg

Commercial growth is continuing in downtown.  I have a current photo to offer of downtown.

    downtownp.jpg

Also, we have an estimate for the population as of this year.  We estimate about 26,000 people live in San Paso as of this year, 1893.  That is the population doubling in 3 years!

    Comments and questions welcome!

Hi, everybody. I won't be able to update until next Sunday or Monday. I'm going down to the city for the weekend.

Also, I can't post an update now because imageshack is unable to load this morning.

Other than that... have a good weekend everyone!

    Larks2242: Thank you

ironicepitome: Yes, San Paso is modernizing.  And, yes, it is beautiful.  And I'm glad to be on pg 5, and thank you for a warm welcome!

xdancerk3: Thank you, and I don't know.  Aren't you supposed to keep track of your money?

    jacqulina: Thank you

N106: Hi, self.  Why can't I ever have an intelligent conversation with you?

Raysfan16: The city nearby.  I did have a good weekend, and I'm glad for your anticipation.

chrissc94: You may or may not have presumed correctly.  And now, you don't have to wait anymore for my next update.

crazyarchitect: Thank you.  I'll be sure to build a nice new building for you by 1895.

Hawkeye9: It took a while to prepare, and I'm glad you like it.  The bridge has been there since 1877.

    Update 27: The American City

It's official.  San Paso has shed its Spanish and Mexican roots.  No businesses print signs in spanish.  Schools have stopped bilingual instruction.  Hispanics are still the largest minority, at 10% of the population, but San Paso is now dominated by English-speaking whites.

The attitudes of the east are beginning to set in.  A middle class is beginning to form.  Consumerism is growing.

San Paso is becoming increasingly more like an urban American city.  It could only be a few decades before tenements start appearing.

More factories have grown in our new industrial district across the river.  Some nearby residents say that the air smells funny.  I say "deal with it!  Some factory owners are giving me a couple thousand dollars to squander on myself!"

    industrialgrowth.jpg

For some reason, those people decided to petition city council.  Fortunately, our industrial friends gave them money to look away, too.  It's a beautiful day for my bank account!

A small opera house has been constructed.  It isn't much, and frequently plays plays.  However, being the only theatre of any kind in San Paso or Anasazi County, it is sure to see some success.

    operahousesale.jpg

Meanwhile, another large building has been constructed for no reason whatsoever and is now for sale.

    buildingforsale.jpg

Farmland continues to eat the desert outside of San Paso.  Farm growth to the north over the past 5 years has led to the creation of a very small village 2 miles north of downtown San Paso.  The village is simply known as Farmville.  It has a general store that keeps local farmers from having to go to town to get supplies.  There are a few houses.  It's probably going to be engulfed by San Paso in the next 20 years.

    farmvillew.jpg

Finally, we leave with a view of a massive and rapidly growing downtown San Paso- which is now the largest business district between Los Angeles and San Antonio.

    downtown.jpg

Finally, we've decided it's time to build a formal high school.  We need immediate sponsorship, because we want San Paso Union High School to be constructed by 1895-96.  Please sponsor!

    Comments and questions welcome!

I'll buy that building, name it the Essey Building, it'll house my business, the C. Essey's Department Store. If this is 1894, then "chrissc94" will actually have meaning. Then I'll donate 25% of my earnings for the first fiscal year to your high school.

Anyways, dang! That downtown is HUGE! Nice job, I hope the downtown shoppers have plenty of stamina to walk around that much.

Kusajika Yachiru: Yeah, 5 years left before the 20th century.  I worked hard to make history work.

crazyarchitect: Thank you for sponsorship.  And yes, Farmville is familiar, mainly because it's an uncreative name.

ironicepitome: Yup, the American way.  Speaking of NAACP, they should rename it for political correctness purposes, make it the National Association for the Advancement of African Americans, or the NAAAA.

simcity4fan12: Really?  I thought my CJ was boring!  I can't wait until the 1900s either.

    xdancerk3: Your contribution is appreciated.

    Larks2242: Thank you

Kryptowhite: Funny. It's okay if you get sidetracked.  Just try your best to comment.

chrissc94: Good, a department store!  We've needed one of those!  And thank you for your contribution.

Muck308: No, I really don't have links to my downloads.  If I posted them, it would take somewhere between 48 and 72 hours.

Raysfan16: It's just that, remember on the 10th update special when I posted the question "how old are you" as an FAQ to myself, and then replied "I cannot answer that on the grounds that it might incriminate you".  It's just that I can't give out personal information.  And downtown is growing.  It'll be even bigger in a few years.  Eventually, they'll have to build up.

Update 28: The Architecture of San Paso

Architecture around San Paso has made some leaps and bounds since the founding of the SPAC more than 10 years ago.  The recent building boom has only helped the advance of architecture.  I remember back about 10 years ago when San Paso was a dusty town of a few thousand with dominantly wood or adobe buildings.

    Those were the days...

Those were the days when Native American raids and rampant crime plagued the west.  Those were the days when most cities didn't have railroads.  Those were the days when prostitutes were some of the richest people in town.  Those were the days when I couldn't find a single *****ed bakery in town!!!!  I'M SO GLAD THAT THOSE HORRIBLE TIMES ARE OVER!!!!

Now, we will start this update with an image of the new high school: San Paso Union High School.  Thanks to whoever sponsored or helped to fund this high school for rich kids.  Finally, wealthy people can go to a place to learn latin and greek, and learn complex math equations that they will never use, along with the Science of Creationism... a bit of a hyperbole, isn't it?  The kids will learn about hyperboles in English.

The Union High School was designed by the SPAC.

    sanpasounionhigh.jpg

The SPAC has been active in these past 3 years.  Their most glamorous creation has been constructed 6 months ago, and is for sale.

    buildingforsale.jpg

The rest of these beautiful SPAC built businesses of the past 3 years aren't for sale.

    largerbusiness.jpg

That building would've been glamorous, except it had a wooden construction that makes it look cheap.

    smallbusiness.jpg

    spacslatestbuilding.jpg

    typicalmercantilebuildi.jpg

Neighborhoods have lots of architecture.  Towards the edge, neighborhoods are less dense and poorer, and show very little signs of aesthetic beauty.  However, around downtown, the wealthy reside.  Here is a nieghborhood that belongs to the rapidly growing "middle" class.

    middleclassnieghborhood.jpg

Here is the wealthiest neighborhood in San Paso.

    upscalenieghborhood.jpg

And that's it for today's update.  Stay tuned for next year when... I don't know.  I can't predict the future.  Also, I can't talk to dogs.  Why did I say that, Fluffy?  Because if I told them the truth, they'd think I was crazy!  Sorry about that.  Fluffy, who may or may not be a dog, was bugging me.

    Comments and questions welcome!

Kasajika Yachiru: I guess it's the wealth effect: wealthier people move in attracting more wealthy people.  I'm glad you're enjoying this historic concept.

Update 29: City Planning in San Paso

Over the last few years, San Paso has begun to become a planners city.  From the grid that was instated in 1889 to the construction of parks, to the widening of roads, and now, our first suburb.

First, we must cover what happened to make the construction of East Paso Park suburb possible: The widening of the eastern leg of Central Avenue (formerly known as Main Street)

Here are 3 spots along the widenened part of Central Avenue that formerly had major traffic problems.

    widenedurbanroad.jpg

    widenedsuburbanroad.jpg

    widenedfarmroad.jpg

Here is a view of East Paso Park, our first suburb.  It is like many suburbs built in the east by planners, except, it was built here.

    19thcenturysuburb.jpg

Some industrial jobs have begun to open up in East San Paso.  The industry owners could finally afford to build industries due to the end of the recent economic recession.  This has helped provide jobs for the residents off East Paso Park.

    expansionofindustry.jpg

We have a building for sale in downtown.  It is another one of the larger buildings being constructed in recent years.  I would buy it.

    buildingforsale.jpg

That's it for this update.  Nothing especially special today.  Tune in next year, when... whatever happens next year happens.
