Welcome to my new BAT Thread! I'm a newcomer to BAT, and right now I will probably be posting more questions than pictures. Hopefully after I learn more the balance will turn the other way.

Here's the first thing I have to offer.

w2wrestaraunt1.th.jpg

Not quite 800x600, so I hope this pleases the mods.

Questions, comments, and suggestions of ANY KIND will be greatly appreciated!

Welcome Raysfan  1.gif!

First off i would suggest you to use preview renders rather than viewport shots.A preview render represents how your creation will look after it's exported, while a viewport shot does not.

As for the windows, this is not a problem or, to be more precise, this is exactly what should you get at a 60% opacity level.

Generally speaking use some sort of opaque textures is better, especially when dealing with large glass surfaces (like in the case of your restaurant).

I would also suggest you to model window mullions rather than using a texture for them.Result will probably look better.

Anyway i'm really curious to see how it will turn out!

Best of luck with your BATing 2.gif !

Welcome to batting 3.gif

For the windows, i would put a texture of an interior on the floor, because that+transparent glass will make it look pretty realistic. The opacity will look more correct when you do the preview render like Francis suggested.

As for the design, I would suggest adding some variation to the facades, like awnings and what not. Good start

    Thanks everybody for your comments.

Francis90b, what in the world are window mullions? Thanks for your help, and I will use preview renders from now on.

Krypp, I understand that I need an interior on that building (and the one I'm gonna show you guys in a minute), but if I put the texture of the interior on the floor, then wouldn't it look kinda flat? Thanks for your comments.

Hawk, thanks for stopping by. I'm gonna need all the encouragement I can get! 9.gif

I've dumped the restaraunt idea, as it's a little ambitious. Now I'm making something that will later function in my upcoming CJ. Last night I learned how to weld correctly! Go me!

    visitorscenter01.jpg

What I'm trying to accomplish is making a transparent glass exterior. It is inspired by the Baltimore Visitors Center in Baltimore, MD. For explanation on the lines, look below.

View from the water (Taken from metrojacksonville.com, anyone interested in urban planning should go there.)

    View from Bing.com Birds eye

If it's difficult to accomplish something like that, then something that is reflective and somewhat transparent would be nice.

    Thanks for the help!

Comments, suggestions, and questions of any kind are greatly appreciated!

Well im not much of a BATter or Urban BAT downloader but nice work Raysfan, the closest I've ever come is a Checkers before the textureing .

I got a CJ, Waterbridge, i'm not a hyperlink expert but search it and it should come up :)

Hello - Your proportions may be a little bit off. The roof shape, also, is not quite what it appears to be in the picture. Looking good so far, though, this would be cool to see in its final form. 4.gif

    I found some dimensions, here.

my suggestion on the glass would be to make planes and then use a lattice. There is a good lattice tutorial in the omnibus i think, if not it is at the simcity website under tools-bat-tutorials.

    Hey guys!

Francis90b, now I get it! lol.

Simsamerica, hey! I havent seen you around in a while. Thanks for the comments dude.

SWAT-MEDIC, thanks for the help, but if you scroll up, you will see that all I want is what the windows look like, NOT the shape of the actual building. Thanks anyway! 9.gif

Krypp, thanks for the idea. You're right, more on that below.

Dan, thanks for the kind words. I'm in over my head.

No pic to show you guys, sorry. But I really need help with the lattices. I saw the tutorial by ardecila 'A Lesson on Lattices', and followed it to a certain point.

But, after I did the Create Shape from Edges, it said to fine the 'Mesh Settings' rollout. And it's NOWHERE to be found. I followed everything, it seems. But I guess it just isn't there. Can anyone help?

    Thanks a bunch!

Okay, I'm back at it sorta, now that my CJ is out I realized that there are virtually no suburban bank outparcels out on the STEX that I can find...

    Whatcha guys think?

    morainebank.jpg

I'm looking for ideas on making the structure less boring, texturing/making the windows, and getting roof junk on.

You could have curves in some places. Anyways, where did you come up with that design? If its a Real Life picture, let me know.

    Overall: It looks great!

Thanks for the comment! I was inspired by a Bank of America near my hometown (suburban Tampa Bay area), but not an accurate recreation at all.

Note to anyone else: Keep in mind I already have enough windows, this is a BANK.
