When you are making your BAT model, do you align everything with gmax coordinates system so no piece is slightly half-pixel out of place than the next one or you get by with just a calibrated eye and common sense?

I am asking this because I´m trying to align everything, I don´t know if it is necessary.

Thanks!

Usually I find that using align is actually easier than trying to eyeball something in most cases, but saying that it's not necessary to align absolutely EVERYTHING.

Like you said, use your common sense. If it's something like a multi-story building with an intricate facade, then you'd be best use align. If you're making something a little less intricate, say a park or a junky low wealth building then you'd probably get away with just eyeballing most things.

Personally, I do a lot of pushing, pulling, and rearranging by hand and by eye. I tend to ignore the typing in the X, Y, and Z boxes at the bottom center of gmax...so I guess I fall into the "calibrated eye and common sense" camp. How else will I develop my carpal tunnel syndrome faster? 2.gif

    Thank you guys!

Just another quick question: During the modelling process there are usually some little faces that get convered by outer faces. Is it necessary to remove those faces that get covered by?

ps: "carpal tunnel syndrome", WTF?? 9.gif

    1. I'm extremely obsessive compulsive so I follow the XYZ boxes, but you should do what you're comfortable with.

    2. Deleting them will keep the file size down if they're not nessecary, but otherwise, save yourself the hassle; they won't cause any problem, so don't bother deleting them. It won't make a huge difference keeping the file size down anyways.

    3. Carpal tunnel: Not fun. I wouldn't suggest trying to get it.

For the first question, accuracy is fairly important, but not so much on the grid system. Try turning on "vertex snap" in the snap options and turning off "grid snap". This way you can have relative accuracy and not worry about typing coordinates all the time. Another way to have accuracy is to right click on the move crossbar, which will allow you to type in offset coordinates, rotate for rotation coordinates, and scale for scaling coordinates.

I personally prefer accuracy and cleanliness in a model just because it becomes much easier to fix a mistake later on instead of re-doing a whole section of the model. Edit poly is generally really good at this.
