Looks good with the desert terrain. You should have used erosion on the flat areas- deserts are usually eroded with dried up streams of water, not perfectly flat.

Flamesrock- the desert terrain is not on Simtropolis, it's at www.teirusu.net

Wow, that is cool. I have never seen the desert mod. You did a great job using it. I mean that is just cool. But where is the city going on that? I don't think it needs more trees at all. The Crystal river looks kinda like the Arkanssas.

Standby.

    Thanks for the compliments everyone.

I went ahead and downloaded the tree mod, and added some shurbs arround the Crystal and Limestone canyons. I have thought about using the errosion tool, however, there are too many problems with using that and trying to get all of the down edges to reconcile, while still trying to hide the city boundaries. As far as with construction going on, I am planning on locating downtown at the junctions of the Crystal and Topaz canyons in the central Crystal Valley. There will be a main freeway running thru the region, actually two freeways 48 and 11. 48 will follow the valley from West to East, and 11 will run from the gable valley, thru downtown, and then turn northwest for a while before exiting the region in the north central valley area. The bridges are going to have to be done rather complexly, so that they dont obstruct construction on some of the plateu areas.

This looks great! I like what you've done with the river valley. Very original. I'll be very interested in seeing how it progresses.

City Update 1 (First Construction Update):

I've completed adding the two main freeways to the region, and named each of the towns/cities that they run thru. I also indicated the location of downtown and the central power/ waste station. I'll have an update with actual city pics sometime this evening or tomorrow.

    City Update 2:

Crystal Junction has been founded in 2910 AD. The town was established at the junction of Freeways 48 and 11 on the north side of the Crystal Canyon. Once establsihed Crystal junction grew at a stead rate to about 3,500 after several years. An industrial complex was constructed just prior to the towns founding south of the Cyrstal Canyon, providing over a thousand jobs for prospective inhabitants of Crystal Junction. The preseance of the Crystal River provided an ample water sorce for the town, allowing for even parks to be established. Several rail systems were constructed to allow Cyrstal junction to have the ability to recieve and ship a limited about of goods south from the cities of New Sabavor and Frontier City.

    The bridge looks very realistic.

Q?: When your city gets large, are you going to turn in into a self contained oasis..kind of like Vegas? Or are going going to leave it as one of those dried out western towns?

When the city gets large it is going to be kind of like pheonix is, a large city in a desert like valley, with an extensive highway system, and eventually limited water supplies.

City Update 3 (Medium Town Status):

Crystal junction has experience a massive boom in both population and in industry. Crystal Junction now at the age of 5 years has reached a population of just above 5,000, with an industrial proccessing and manfacturing base of over 2,500. Construction projects have undergone all throughout the town, specifically to the east and south, where industrial centers and residential neighborhoods have exploded in size. The town has reached a size large enough that minor traffic jams are occuring on First St over F48/11. The Crystal Line has been established to relieve traffic across the James Thomas Bridge, even tho only a few commuters can afford the travel it.

I can't wait to see what's next! Reading City Journals has become a Simtropolis hobby of mine, and this is one of the finest! Could you periodically add region views. so we could see the Big Picture? Keep it up! 1.gif

Yes I will be adding regional views as the city develops to show overall status. For the moment I am not adding any because the city is just developing within one tile, once it expands beyond those boarders I'll be adding regional snapshots.

I'll also be adding a city paper as well to these updates, as you have already seen my first post of the Crystal Chronicles. I've seen several other journal do a simular thing, so i'd like to give credit to those who did. I'd like your opinion on wether its a good idea to continue making paper updates.

    City Update 4:

I've been slowly working on Crystal Junction over the past day or so, the town has reached a population of just over 7,100. I am building slowly on Medium Speed, because it allows me to more easily fine tune the town, with names, photos, and development. Here are a couple of photos, one of the town, and the other of the region. I'll keep posting newspaper updates often, and city updates like these every day or two.

I'll be posting an industrial update with the next city update later on this week. I am trying to work carefully with the industrial centers, primarily because I am trying to get an extensive rail system developed with the industrial sector, since my prior cities lacked this. I'll also try and develop a decent amount of dirty industry in addition to the clearner manufacturing and high tech industries, this will add in making the industrial sectors more realistic.

The city is built in a highly desert like region on the planet of Frontier Point. Its near the equater so there is little in the way of seasons, and the region is slowly getting drier and hotter, Crystal and Limestone rivers are all that is left of a river which was once 3 miles in width. However, the heat is dry heat, with no humidity, so its much more bearable, then typical midwest summers.

Right now my tax rates are set fairly uniform. All taxes are set to 9.0%, with the excetion of high wealth residential which is set at 10.0%.
