okay, now I know there are some similarities between the two programs but I am having a hard time understanding the BAT...

first I have found no threads so far that help beginning BATters..

I only have one specific question at the moment...

how do I create seperate planes on objects (is it even possible with BAT?)

Relationships with AutoCAD? I've imported 2D .dwg files into 3dsmax and then built them up as 3D models (not sure if Gmax can do it though). If you're familiar with AutoCAD then by all means you can do that if you're struggling to learn.

Here's a great tutorial for beginners, just everybody here started off with this. As for creating separate planes on objects, I'm not really sure what you're referring to, most things you need to know to get started with the Gmax BAT are in the tutorial.

    well, I don't believe that's it...

on the bar below the top bar (File, edit, tools etc...)

it's blank and when I roll over them, it'll say their names:

Select and rotate/Select and uniform scale/Use pivot point center

The way the installation sets up Gmax is the way most people use it, and the way it's supposed to be. If it doesn't resemble something like this, then maybe a simple re-install could fix your problem.

    (ignore the colours)

If you still can't figure out what's wrong with your toolbar(s), post a picture.

To be completely honest, I'm offended that you think that there are no threads for beginners. Aside from there being an in-depth tutorial on the omnibus, a listing of helpful tutorials in the mega-faq, a huge thread documenting a ton of beginner problems and technical bugs (including the one you're asking about now, which was just answered yesterday), and countless BAT threads where beginners visibly work through their problems, there's a dedicated group of regulars who answer questions that aren't covered elsewhere.

The reality is that it's a relatively complicated program, and that Simtropolis is an old site. It's not going to be on a silver platter someplace.

Anyway, I don't personally think gmax is much like autocad.

You'll have to be more specific about your planes question.

I also just realized that when I download both BAT and GMAX, it says that the file is 19.2(GMAX) but it only downloaded 18.8..

When I downloaded BAT and it said 10.2 but it only downloaded 8.5?

19.2 (gmax)?? what sort of measurement unit is it?

also remember golden rule that "picture speaks a thousand words".It is especially important when you don't seem to be able to find definitive words yourself..

Also do bother to look around rather then just sit like shah of sorts and wait wen "minions" will deliver. If i understand your problem correctly (again why do I have to guess!?) it has just been dealt with in case of another user in a thread next to this with a very pointing title...
