First Mass Transit?

So, I have a pretty big city, we're talking big structures but not quite skyscrapers yet.

Anyway, I haven't invested in any mass transit besides bus stops (speaking of which, can somebody link me some bus stop signs so my bus stops don't use up valuable space) -- and now that I have the money, what should be my first choice in mass transit?  Highways?  Monorails?  Then what?

Thanks.

Highways are techincally not Mass Transit, but should be planned beforehand and expanded as your city grows.

I assume by this you mean In-road Bus stops? They exist. Do a search for RTMT(Road Top Mass-Transit), available here and on SC4D. The set up for them is somewhat complicated so read the README. Pita to setup but excellent in-road MT stations.

Anyhow,IMO

1> Subways

2> Ground Light Rail.

Along with the normal hw-ave road bus etc, you really cant go wrong with those choices.

My GLR\Subway network moves over 700K people per month

Railways are also a must in a large city, especially when it comes to neighbour connections. Keep in mind that the railway is the oldest mass-transit network. Railway station usually have high capacaties.

Traveller's options are also quite good.

I typically use buses and subways until my city become crazily large, then I use elv rail.

I tend to use subusways (not sure where you get them from). There bus, subway, rail and parking garages in one. They only take up one square. I normally put them in while i'm building so that i don't get into the pickle that your in now. The great thing is that they are just a regular bus station until you can afford to build subways.

i use subways, with some El over road in a few places just for added effect. after the subways, bus stations next to the subways or using combined bus/subway stations. Rail has been in place, and tends to be best for the more distant commutes as well as the monorail / shinkasen ( i use shinkasen as does hal) worth mentioning is NAM. It does wonders for streamlining mass transit.

I have created a monsterous monorail system that goes through my entire region. If you want to gut down on commute times, monorail is the way to go. ( Plus, it looks cool. )

You should use both GLR/Elrail/Subway alongside Monorail to get R$$ and R$$$ sims to use mass transit. R$$ sims use ElRail, while R$$$ sims use monorail.

I think the best choice will be a GLR/Subway/Eltrain system. The best about it is that it you can connect those networks. Also for big cities a rail system is a must. I personally don't use the monorails because they can't be connected with other networks and because they don't look realistic at turns (the turns are too sharp).

I've been getting great use from my GLR network--over ten thousand sims a day on one line. Get the T-RAM expansion to the Network Addon Mod and it won't take up any extra space.
