sims 3 surprise

Hi, I couldn't find any posts similar to this but, after the supposed disappointment of Simcity Societies, and playing my Simcity 4 for 3 years on one region [which has been great] I realized after purchasing Sims 3 that EA is actually incorporating a great "Sims and Simcity game" in ONE. Sims 3 looks like it will do everything that Cities Xl will do, eventually. There is talk of a tool to create your own maps, towns in Sims 3. You can walk around the town in 3d, first person view. So they have actually done it.....will the latest SimCity be as one with sim 3 ,where you can build a metropolis and walk around it, live in it, the whole deal? it's pretty close already. Is this the ultimate plan from EA??? mmmm

Let me know your thoughts

That sounds very interesting, but where did you get this information. I think that EA might make a game like that, but it would probably require a very fast computer. So in my opinion they'll probably release a game like that some time after Sims 3 so that more's law (I am assuming you know what that is) to catch up with the program. Please by all means don't  let what I say put you down ( if it does) , I would really like to here more. Thank you for posting.

I agree,

If EA is smart they'll do what Monte Cristo is doing, but then with Sims3 twist in it. If they make a game like that (without those hundreds of Sims Expansions) I really think they have a big hit.

One more thing I meant to mention, if you have played the Sims 3, it's pretty easy to make your own buildings within the game which is user friendly. I have tried Gmax and 3d programs and gave up, maybe I’m just lazy it shouldn’t take complex programs to make your own buildings. However I considered the option of Custom making every building in Sims 3 ,filling it with furniture and custom created Sims to be completely original but to match my population in Simcity4 of over 1.2 million people...that could take quite a while.

BTW is the technology there to do what I started this post about??? or is it that it's not even affordable by game companies?

    I'm out

There's nothing infinitely complex about gmax - an evening or two of a thorough following of phillipbo's tutorial in the Omnibus section of this site will give you everything you need to make perfectly workable buildings in it.  My gmax skills are mediocre at best; for pete's sake, I didn't even use booleans until after my first year of using gmax.  But there's no rocket science in using the program, and my stuff turns out just fine, IMHO and in the eyes of all those who have commented on my uploads on the STEX.

I haven't played the SIms 3, but I'm planning to get it and have read about the neighborhood gameplay. In short the answer is probably yes, if it ever comes: a 3D city-builder from EA with Sims-like elements of gameplay (you can live in it too) that is a lot more realistic than Societies was. If EA could pull it off, they would make oogles more $$$.

I'd have to disagree about the Sims 3, though: there's no way the game is capable of doing what Cities XL (in city-building) will do beyond making a small town. But the Sims and SimCIty definitely do continue to merge.

EA goes where the money is, and the Sims are a cash-cow for them so there only priority is to keep milking it as long as they can. Thats why even respected franchises that EA owns basically get little or no development. If it doesnt conform to the "Can we crank it out fast and make it so simplistic any moron(or american) can understand it" model, there not interested. For one, I could care less about anything with sims in the title. I expect it will be a long time (if ever) before we see a SC5 the way the PC game industry is structured now

The problem with EA these days is that they often rush their games. It leads to bad quality games and often they are rather buggy too.

I'd love the idea, but I would prefer it if someone else did it. The overhyped releases of games like Spore alarm me. I just hope that with the new Sims 3, they don't release so many expansion and stuff packs - what was it for Sims 2, 9 expansions and 10 stuff packs? Crazy.

Yes, it's somehow what stupid what EA's doing. It smells like someone wants a little pocket money by selling the expansions. I hope EA's not gonna realease dozens of expansions because I really hate those things. You only get new stuff and that's it. Simcity4's expansion added some new gameplay, so I don't mind those expansions for SC4.

EA should corporate again with Will Wright and make a game that mixes up the Sims and Simcity with Next-gen graphics.

    It could never happen.

EA only invest in what they think will make money, and city building games aren't all that popular. However user friendly "pick up and play" games are. It would be impossible to roll the two together and make game that would have lasting appeal.

Besides, EA would neve rbe able to pull anything like that off without making it a massive disappointment *COUGH spore COUGH*

That would be indeed very cool. I have found myself playing the sims 2 wanting to have some simcity elements in the game, like office buildings, the ability to add new roads to the neighborhood. Also roads , streets and avenues , would be nice to have. And the ability to connect neighborhoods to other neighborhoods

I wished they had made more expansions for SimCity 4, it would be nice if EA would give the SimCity 4 Source Code to Simtropolis. Simtropolis has done a lot of great stuff for SimCity 4.

Um, all the Sims 2 expansion packs added substantial functionality.  Together they change the game FAR more than Rush Hour changes vanilla SC4.  You might be thinking of the stuff packs, which WERE ripoffs.

Yeah, it is pretty annoying that EA abandoned SC4 so early.  I guess the sales weren't up to projections; I've actually never looked at that information, now that I think about it, but it makes sense.  SC4 is essentially a niche game with a steep learning curve, especially for players who have no prior SC experience.  Still, it's frustrating that the game and the playerbase was entirely abandoned after one expansion pack, especially when there are some obvious mod ideas out there (a seasons mod, for example, or more transportation options, or a regional terraformer).  The modding community has done great work, but I can't tell you how many times I've been futzing around for the nth straight hour with puzzle pieces, wishing Maxis had just included streetcars as a transportation option.

I don't begrudge the Sims 2 or its player community all the expansions and support they recieved.  It's understandable that EA/Maxis is going to give a lot of attention to the best-selling PC game of all time, and TS2 has its own community of talented modders who obviously love the game and have done a lot of work to make it better.  Frankly, it's a really good game.  It's not really my style, but it does exactly what it sets out to do (I do enjoy designing houses, but I get bored after that).  But it would have been nice of SC4 had gotten a little more attention than it did.

If you ask me(SC4 was my first SimCity game) , the problem with SC4 isn't the complexity, but the fact that players were simply tossed into the game and told, "Go build a city. Good luck!" It wasn't until Rush Hour that the game got decent tutorials and scaleable difficulty levels for new players. Playing the original was like being thrown into the ocean and having to learn how to swim at the same time. Many people couldn't handle it.
