I had regions from way back that had no mods whatsoever, before I knew there was a simtropolis, and I managed to get 2 regions with 2 million people in them. Only a few pictures of those cities remain, but those pics are updated and all those cities have mods all over them now. I think it's better to play with mods/downloads, though, keeps the game interesting for me.

I did good without the mods and stuff, and I don't like the expectation that your city isn't good until you have custom content. But the add ons are good, and the NAM makes the game work how it should, which sets it apart.

I did till late December 2008 or January 2009. Not sure the exact time, but I was pretty good at it. I rarely got anything above 250k per region, but I still can't do that now! I really do not like dense urban areas and I have yet to see a level 7 or 8 residential and commercial building pop up in my game!

I agree there are issues, especially w/ traffic etc. I just miss those Kick @ss cities people did the 'old fashioned' way!

I will never make a ploppable city. To me thats cheating and removes the the challenge of the game. I have a 500k people city with almost zero polution that was made the old fashioned way. The only polution I have is from traffic. So what does the NAM really do? Does it make the game actually take logical routes to work? Is it a cheat?

I don't make ploppable cities but I see the appeal--to be able to use a large 3D canvas to make cities. It's just a different way to do design.

Well, no, the NAM enhances the game's transit networks. Using SImulator A, B, or Z will make the game run the transit networks more realisticly. Also, it opens so much more possibilites. The RHW (seperate NAM plugin) allows you to create fully custom interchanges and way more realistic highways.

The term "mod" in SC4 terms really isnt bad, its just that generally that "mod" has a bad connotation to it.

Also, I dont use "plops" unless I absolutely need a certain building.

Ive played SC4 for like 3 weeks and i have a region with 250k people and i have not used any cheat or mod.

All of my cities have a positive income and my biggest city has 75k people(medium city).

I havent installed any NAM or Money mod cause i wanted to know how far would i go but i guess this is it, i started to get bored now.

I'm no fan of ploppables and some of the sledgehammer super-cheats, though I confess to using iLive to raise school and hospital radii to infinity and de-emphasizing the role of income in determining transit options. The NAM is neat. What Simulator Z gives in improved pathfinding it takes away from intersections.

On the other hand, you bet that my rural towns are going to be afflicted with Wal-Marts.
