Common Mistake Using BuildingPlop cheat

I decided to post this topic because I couldn't find the answer to my problem in any of the the forums (maybe the answer was there but my laziness didn't allow me to look through all the forums).

Anyways, so the problem I was facing was I couldn't build landmarks with jobs - thats when I realized, the landmarks had 2 versions: 1 had the LM in front of its name, and the other was just the name of the landmark. So if you want to create a landmark with jobs, make sure you use the buildingplop cheat on the version without the LM in front of it.

Enjoy!

p.s. You Can Use the BuildingPlop cheat after installing the Extra Cheats DLL found in the "New Release: SC4 Extra Cheats DLL" topic by "Buggi". instructions on how to successfully install that can be found there.

If you are a Mac user and have questions about SC4 you can contact me if you wish.

unfortunately this is NOT a solid and reliable advise.

The problem is that that "LM" isn't there always and it is up to the creator of that particular bat to either use such naming convention or not.

Another point if you gonna write any kind of tutoria/advise you should be careful with the wording. Because for instance here you already mislead people. You say use BuildingPlop cheat. But there isn't such a cheat! It simply doesn't exist. Instead there is one called LotPlop.

At any rate use of this method leaves you at the mercy, as I have mentioned already, of the name of the lot exemplar with may or may not be revealing.

Using the normal method - finding the building you wanna plop in it's appropriate menu (usually Landmark one) could be easier, given graphical nature of it also it normally have some description of what you're about to plop. Unfortunately here you are also at the mercy of th creator.

i absolutely hate it when a coit tower with jobs randomly pops up in my city.

is there anyway to prevent the abandonment of building-plopped residentials? for some reason, some of the residential buildings that i plopped survived and remained inhabited, while the rest of them get the suitcase zot and then eventually became abandoned due to "commute time".... i absolutely don't understand what's going on here

I think a lot of people use cheat as synonymous with anything added later after the game was released, other than the actual released expansion.

Plopped residentials will abandon because the game doesn't establish a road connection.  There are suggestions that there is a way to defeat that.   Industrial, and commercial plopped lots will also have low efficiency.

I don't Know why I have not posted this in such an appropriate thread before, but better late than never.

Simfox is correct in mentioning that buildingplop is not a cheat per say, but it is a command in the "maxis developer's console" that is made functional/accessible by the extra cheats plugin (as are the rest of the "cheats" that are entered in the same fashion).

Anyway, as SODATWIN alluded to, plopped residentials CAN in fact function. The trick to getting them to stay is that they MUST be plopped over an EXISTING developed residential lot of the same dimensions in the same road-facing direction. Given these restrictions, any residential building can be plopped on any existing residential development and function properly.

If, for example, there is a 6x4 building you would like to plop. You must zone a block that is the EXACT the depth of your building, in this case 4, and a a width of equal or greater width. You might wait for years and not have a 6x4 grow, however, the method still works if the lots add up to the width you need. 3 2x4s, 2 3x4s, 6 1x4s or any combination so long as they add up to a continuous developed zone equal or greater than the width of your building.

Please note, the ploped buildings are still susceptible to abandonment from demand and other factors, but they will add population and function the same as any other residential building (except they will not require jobs, they will have no commuters and therefore, no traffic!)

I have not ever had a problem with commercials, but they are susceptible to demand much more so because they often satisfy too much demand to support itself. Industrials can be touchy with the demand too.

I hope this helps,

-Todd

i actually came in here to mention that. i've tried that many times for the past few days (plopping them on top of already developed residentials) and nothing has seemed to abandon... so it's legit method so far...
