The game crashes without any reason

I am so upset for this that sometimes i was think about removing thw game and never play it again. No matter that i do, the game crashes without any reason. The crashes are random, sometimes the games closed 15 minutes later, other times 2 hours later. This is the last Exception Report:

It's because of my a bit old graphic card? It's because of the dust insite the computer? I have N.A.M. but i know that puzzle pieces crashes the game when they are over transit enable lots. I removed many buildings, i check my plugins, no problem. I have the updates but still nothing. I have only Simcity running but it still crashes. Can somebody please help me?

Its normal, my game usually crashes when playing a city thats on medium or large city, I can be playing for 2hrs or just 15 mins into the game till boom back to the desktop, just got to remember to save every now and then when you complete things in the city, I learnt to live with it, I am pretty sure you can, just like many others here on this site have.

Sorry, but that is utter nonsense: I've not had a crash since January 2007 when I followed the instructions by rushman5, a tutorila of which is found here on the omnibus. Other than for NAM puzzle-piece-related crashes there is no reason for the game ever to crash - not under XP, nor under Vista. Ever!

544 MB. I hope that isn't too much because many people have even 10 GB of addons without crashes!!

Could be something that you DL'd and it is not compatible with another file that you DL'd.

Size of plugins folder will not crash the game, it simply slows it to a crawl if you don't have enough memory and/or slow processor.

No Vista, no DC: you can still set the priority of the game (in terms of memory draw & processor time slices). 1GB of RAM should be enougfh for such a small plugins folder: I've recently tested SC4 with 4.8GB in the folder on a 1GB laptop - single core but Vista, and while it was slow as hell, no crashes.

I suggest you start with an empty plugins folder and a new region, just to check: if then you don't get crashes, it is something you downloaded (or forgot to download, such as a dependency).

The patch was released to solve errors in the game, so until you have the patch installed there is not much use in talking about what might be causing the crashes.

Thank you so much for posting this. I was getting 2-3 crashes every hour because of my dual core computer, now for the past 2 days I haven't had any! (Apart from NAM related ones)

That tutorial should be given more prominence, I'm sure it would help many people.

Thanks, but the credit really goes to rushman5 who first discovered this.

It is not the ultimate fix but everyone with a dual processor can test if it is applicable to them (not just under Vista):

1. Get the game up to region view, then CTRL-ALT-DEL to the Task Manager;
2. Select the Processes tab and find the simcity4 process, it is usually on top if you sort by memory consumption;
3. Right-click on the process and set first Affinity (to CPU0) and then Priority (high or real time);
4. Close the Task manager and start to play

If the crashes stop happening, then it is time for the fix; otherwise you need to look at your graphics card, sound card, and if all else fails at the state of your plugins folder (keep it clean is my motto).

Yes, and it has been tested by higher authorities than mine. The principal remains the same: to avoid "confusing" SC4 by the OS' arbitrary assignment of processors while the game is in play, assigning it to a single processor improves matters, because it also ties memory heaps to that processor's output. And SC4 is all about memory.

Sadly, I am having the same problem, except that in my case, it crashes every 5-10 mins! The longest time that I have ever played this past week was just 30mins! I am so pissed because I can't play normally because the freaking game crashes everytime. grrrrrrrr

I was using Vista x32 and crashes happend too, now Im with W7 and getting crashs too. Only have some pluigns thinking a lot plugins could make me crash offen but not luck.

Now Im trying to use this affinity on cpu and try runiing in windows xp compatibity mode. -Running in full screen

I am currently in the process of trying the aforementioned fix. However, if it doesn't work (or if it does, it still might be useful) I would definitely be interested in some kind of program/mod/something that would automatically save during gameplay or something. Anything like that ever created?

I finally installed the patch and chess what, no more crashes anymore!!!
