Zoning - how big can you go?

Hey all,

Probably a nice simple question and hopefully get answered pretty quickly!

I have watched and read many tutorial on how to build big cities. Most seem to advise that you set up 4x4 Res/Com area's for skyscrapers, but what is the largest you can zone...on trying to practice in game I have seen I can zone larger but never seen them actually develop.

Thanks in advance.

Well several CAMeLots are larger than 4x4, I think the largest one is 10x18, but that is an industrial lot, which can be zoned larger. However, I advise for a 6x6 footprint, as that allows more building to grow.

    Thanks for your reply,

Can you expand on what you mean by CameLots - are these specific lots which are downloaded.....or something which is already in the game.

I should have asked that in my original post - Whats the largest footprint the game (before adding custom content) would allow.

I have never zoned any bigger than 4x4....you would think it would tell you in the manual, or somewhere on the offical site. Does anyone know if this has been aswered on here before....I try the search function which works fine for some things, but fails badly for others!

    Thanks again!

I think the largest self-growing buildings are 6x6 or 8x8.

FWIW, I prefer 7x7 blocks with 3x3 zoned at the corners and a cross-shaped empty area reserved for transit, trees and small parks.  As the city grows, sometimes I'll bulldoze the block and set up one 6x6 area from a corner, with an L-shaped area free.  You can tell it's too early in the game for 6x6 buildings if the game throws in a side street as you attempt to zone 6x6.  Also nice are 9x4.

As long as there is room, there is enough like zoning on the spot, a large building can grow even if the orginal lot was smaller.

The maximum growable LOT size is 6x6, but you can modify the lot to allow for larger sizes all the way up to the maximum of 64x64 if you wanted too (I forget what program that editing needs to be done in, but its probably ilives's Reader).

If you want to see large growables, just look up Bixel on the STEX, some of his buildings are bigger than 6x6 let alone his LOTs. Just press and hold the ctrl key to make the lots on the specific size as they will be difficult to grow otherwise.

@SimHoTToDDy: I saw a tutorial about it at SC4D, I remember that it was done by the so-called 'X-tool', which isn't released (yet).
