Actually, I goofed on the network46.gif...it's ABC, not NBC, not that that will make the series any better.

I wonder how soon we find out who the bad guys are in those disc-shaped ships? The CGI is rather good in this.

Let's see: What's worse than Gou'auld, Ori, and Wraith? Hmmm. Banths? Green hexapodal martians? Drei fusse tier?

quote>

I assume you're talking about when those ships shot onto Odyssey in the pilot? These ships were apparently Lucian Alliance, if that helps.

Watched the second episode last night - quite good, though I want to see the damn wormhole... it's the one effect I miss from traditional Stargate the most.

Anyone else going to keep watching Stargate Universe?

I will, but DVR them and watch several episodes at once, so I haven't watched it yet.  I'm doing the same thing with Heros at the moment, have the first 3 episodes of S4, but haven't watched them yet.

The solar intercept orbit was quite a nice cliff-hanger, but of course we know the next episode will present a solution.  I am really beginning to like the idea that all the characters have lots of warts as well as good points.

I'm watching SGU. I like the concept that these people were not selected for the situation they are in. They are not totally random but most of them had no plans of being there.

I suspect that it will be like Lost in the sense that many of the characters will stay in the background until they are needed.

These people have religion and sex, which is unusual for a sci-fi show.

Didn't know the Air Force was into kidnapping people. I guess the political correct thing to say is that Eli was drafted.

Anyone else think they need to find the hydroponic bays pretty soon?

Im sure the whole 1st season will be exploreing the ship and mabey a few planets the ship stops at. Food will become an issue when they get tired of watery flour or what ever that was.

Im may be miss remembering but didnt 2 of them  gate  from Tattooine ( the desert planet)?

Yup.. I seem to remember Eli dialing that planet as well later on, but couldn't get them on the radio.

Well, the ship did move on.  and we don't know which direction it went relative to that planet.  Assuming that planet was habitable.   They didn't even send a Kino to check it out.

Does the direction matter with a stargate?

Ill have to admit im not up on the specifics of how they work or what thier limitations are, this is the 1st SG I have watched except the original movie and a few random epsisodes.

Good point.  Direction usually doesn't matter.  Their limitations are usually based on the amount of power available at the dialing gate.    It takes more power to get to a gate in another galaxy.   and the wormholes are one-way.   (not that I recall seeing anyone try to go the wrong way through a wormhole.)

But on this ship, it seems to matter.   They talk about being in range of a gate.   Maybe because the ship needs to drop out of hyperspace and it only does so near a gate?  That doesn't sound right though . . .

The Ship's low power problem could account for the lock out on certian gates as the ship dont have the power to open it, but knows its is there.

Did anyone see the CSI episode with the thinly disguised Star Trek theme?  It was quite a hilarious lampoon.  I nearly collapsed when the CSI lab rat kid called the detective and acually got to use the lline "He's dead, Jim".

As I recall, you can't dial a gate in hyperspace, as you'd be travelling too fast to get a lock. Sorta like if you were driving really really fast and you were moving through area codes faster than someone can dial the right one. (Ok bad analogy, but it gets the point across. 3.gif 2.gif I seem to remember that from SG1.

Haha. I dont think your analogy is bad at all, beebs. You are essentially moving through galactic coordinates too fast to get a single lock. 3.gif

I think that the fact the ship powered up and dropped out of FTL while the gate was spinning tho tells us that the gates have some sort of weird subspace link together(like the Comm Stones since it spans galaxies) and can contact each other in FTL, but cant dial. Sorry, getting geeky here. XD

And yeah meg, wormholes are one-way. There have been episodes where things(inanimate objects) have fallen back through the event horizon and been vaporized.

By Easy Bakes: The Ship's low power problem could account for the lock out on certian gates as the ship dont have the power to open it, but knows its is there. quote>

And Easy Bakes, there are people who suspect that the reason the other 4 gates were locked out because the ship has an AI that didnt want them going there for some reason. This is based on the fact that they dialed the desert planet multiple times, and should have had enough power to dial the other ones. Plus power doesent seem to mater when it comes to dialing within a single galaxy.

And it has been said that the Destiny gates are an early prototype version of the stargate and have a limited range, as apposed to the Milkyway and Pegasus galaxy gates that seem to have a limitless range. [As far as 9 chevrons can take them and they have enough power, of course.]

Just saw this week's trailer.  After fire .... ice?

EDIT; Oct 28th.

The latest trailer contains a reference to

Star wars episode V.  I think the desert planet was Tatooine, as well.  What's happening?

No I just  called it that. Dont think they actualy said the planets name.

About  last fridays episode ( i watched it last night )

I sort of figgured the ship would refuel in the somewere, although i kinda thought it wold have made more sense to

pull the fuel from the gas giant. But not as dramatic. They turned  on  Rush  very quickly  afterwards.

Poor Eli...

No, they clearly said Hoth in the trailer for this weeks episode19.gif.  I heard it plain as day, no doubt about it.

Anyways, I recieved my copy of the BluRay The Plan on Tuesday from Amazon, the final Battlestar Galactica chapter, explaining what the 'plan' was behind Season 1 & 2s "and they have a plan" Cylon reference in the opening credits of each episode.  Good stuff, I recomend you watch via the broadcast, which hasn't been annonced yet, or rent/buy the dvd/bluray.44.gifx3.5 out of 44.gifx5

I think that was just Eli being Nerdy and  not many of the others would get the reference.

Watch for Eli to be more than a nerd. He is a mathematical idiot-savant and will play as a foil to Rush.

If they really are in the "Hoth" system, the link to Star Wars gets more binding, eh?

What does that have to do with the fact that you said they probably didn't say the 'planets' name in the trailer, then was informed that they had?  Your comment makes no sense in that regard my friend.20.gif

Anyways, anyone going to bother to watch the re-do of V this Tuesday night on ABC?  I might DVR it and watch it, though as far as the story/plot goes it is not very interesting, maybe the FX will be decent enough to warrant a view, but I'm not holding my breath.

I like how Eli calls it the second Star Wars movie and "refuses to refer to it as episode five".   I guess you have to be a major Star Wars geek to get the diss against the later three movies (which are, in theory, the first three.)

Sci fi channel is currently showing the old show.

What i meant was Eli just called it Hoth. that is probably not the planets name.
