Building a city without roads?

I've recently re-installed SC4 and I had a project in mind. I want to build a metropolis without a road or a street, using simply pedestrian tiles for short distances, subway and maglev systems.

Has somebody tried it before? And if someone is up to, go ahead and show some traffic maps and else!

Of course, this wouldn't work for industrial areas, cuz there would be no communication linking lots and train stations - Harbours, wouldn't it?

Just to point out, it's impossible to develop residential on Pedestrian Lots as well, so the only thing you'd be able to develop is Commercial if the city is purely pedestrian.

Actually, I did have lots of res built on ped lot. So its possible. It just acts like roads.

It is possible to develop industry using just rail and ped-mall. You just have to design it carefully so that all the industry has access to the railway.

Fire stations won't work without roads, and police stations will whinge about it, but I'm not sure if they actually work or not.
