Creating a custom pedestrian mall

Hello everyone, I'm trying to create a custom pedestrian mall for my cities. I have always found the original ones rather boring. I want to combine the look and effect of a park but with the advantage of a ped-mall. I have downloaded several custom pedestrian tiles, but they never seems to be traffic enabled. Also, I would like it to show within the road menu, not the park or bus one . Could anyone give me some info on how to proceed, or maybe if anyone knows a good tutorial I could use. Thanks a lot. Rob

The quickest, easiest way I can think of to accomplish this is to download Pegasus' Fountains, which happen to allow pedestrian traffic (capacity of 5,000), then use the lot editor to replace the props and textures with whatever you like.  This would, however, appear in the parks menu.  There are other ways to create pedestrian malls that may appear in the misc. transit menu, but it's more complicated than adjusting the fountains to suit your needs.  As for getting them to appear in the roads menu, I've never modded anything for that menu and have never researched how to do it, but it is obviously possible -- perhaps as easy as using the reader to alter the occupant group, or maybe as complicated as creating a T21 exemplar.

Let us know what you come up with.

Mike

Thanks for the info. I'm going to download the fountains and see what I can do with them. It does sound easier then the 5 hours I've just spent messing around with the NAM NetworkAddonMod5.dat in SC4 Tool.

However, If anyone could guide me throught editing the original NAM Ped-Malls, that would still be great.

    Thanks.

This is what I've done so far with ped malls:

Let me know if you find out anything new because I haven't quite worked the kinks out yet.

Also, check out Andreas Roth's SC4Tool - it wont edit the T21 exemplar but it will allow you to create the easiest TE lots.

I tried downloading the fountain, but they are not really Transit enabled. It does not let pedestrians walk throught it, and no traffic info comes up with the RH info tool.

Nice try, but not what I was looking for.

timcravey, I am amazed at what you've done so far, it's fantastic. I'm struggling to get it to work. I got the pieces to show as "road" and to allow pedestrians on them but I can't connect the pieces together. It's telling me that the square is already used. I'll try talking some snapshots and post then on here. I gonna try following the links you gave me, and I will keep you posted.

    Thanks for the help.

The fountains are not transit-enabled, but Sims will walk through them, and they appear on the traffic data view indicating that they are part of the transit network.  Perhaps they only work as individual tiles.  I have not tried to use them as ped malls, placing several in a row.  It's very easy to make them transit-enabled using SC4Tool.  However, you cannot place two transit-enabled tiles next to one another, which is why the game tells you that the adjacent tile is already occupied.  The only option here is to make several mall strips of different lengths, transit-enabled all the way through for pedestrian traffic only (otherwise you'll have cars driving on them).  This will clutter up your menus, though, because you'll have to do 1x1, 1x2, 1x3, etc.

OK, in order to create a custom ped mall, you can either edit an existing one, or create your own.

Right now, its best to edit an existing one. Since it takes advanced transit modding knowledge to create your own, its best not to go there.

What you can do is to T21 props onto a ped mall tile of your choice. These will work properly and look good (depending on your lotting skills) Here is a link to the two main T21 tutorials: LINK1 LINK2

    Hope this helps,

    Vince

I don't know what to put here anymore.

Thanks To Timcravey & Blue Lightning I have now managed to replace the original pedmall by my own, but I just have one problem, It keeps the original base texture and does not show my base nor overlay texture.

    Any idea why?

Thanks for the great help so far.

    Hello,

Just wanted to let you know that I have now managed to fix the problem I was having with the texture. I got all my lots to work as I wanted. Thanks a lot for everybody's great help on this project.

One little details: I'm still replacing the original NAM pedmall (I used the mountain trail set), If anyone could Help me create an independent menu, that would be great.

essential_rob, mind sharing your info on how to change the texture? I am also interested in creating customized pedestrian lots. Also, do you have any idea where the properties like price or bulldoze costs are stored?

Also, it might be a bit stupid trick, but I managed to create a own menu for the Ped Malls simply by copying the NetworkAddonMod5.dat. Though I don't know what else I duplicated that way.

    Edit 01:

I mean that might work on some levels, but be sure to backup your things.

    Edit: 02:

Ok, it seems that just copying the .dat is just a bad idea. I gathered some more knowledge on whole modding aspect and now I can say that barely copying the .dat won't do anything good.
