Diagonal rail

Has anyone elso noticed that since downloading the lates NAM, diagonal rail (the original maxis rail) tiles now appear darker than the straight tiles? It's not a major problem but it does look odd when zooming out.

Why does this happen?

Is there a way to make it look like the straight bits again?

(Let me know if you have no idea what I am talking about and I will post a pic)

Yea I noticed that too, very annoying. Easy way to avoid this: if the curve is small enough, use one of the FAR pieces to avoid using diagonals.

Nope, haven't noticed it with the NAM in particular, but noticed that it was always a problem with or without the NAM.

excerpt from SFBT's Rail Texture Mod, by Andreas Roth;

"For some reason, Maxis brightened the rail textures for the zoom levels 1 to 4, maybe because they would have looked too dark otherwise. However, all known texture generators for SimCity 4 don't apply this brightness change, so the processed textures are darker for the zoom levels 1 to 4."

Yep, there is a fix for this.

"This mod provides a better look for the rail textures in SimCity 4 by making the textures for those zoom levels darker as well, like it is the case with all rail textures that are contained in the Network Addon Mod or the various base and overlay textures that are available for lots. From now on, the color shift will be eliminated."

[EDIT]

Originally posted by: CaptCity This is the result of some rail textures being modified to closer match some of the new rail pieces that were included in the new version of NAM. There are updates being worked on to address this issue.quote>

The RAM Team is currently working on a re-texturing of ALL Maxis rail textures to make them more realistic. But, the problem of texture shading was addressed by the above mentioned mod about a year ago.

Your issue is probably due to the fact that the some texture modification was done in the new NAM's to match some of the newer rail pieces that were included. You can use the SFBT Rail Texture mod (as NCD mentioned) or you can try out the Dual Rail Texture mod to get a closer match. There's a link at the end of Dedgren's post. It's a beta at this time. The SFBT mod will be pretty close, and it's being updated also. Hope this helps...
