Republic of Kalnobia: A better economy rises from the dead...

Before I begin my city journal, I would like to cite the words of Kalnobian President Boris Talov's 1999 Annual Address at the Talovgrad Capital Hall:

"Pres Tarvlasla, kaol vi stoje dantses,  je u fanoru, za fanoru, i fanoru. Ysrijalija, svibanj ovog syrtseya ceklaihk biti u fanoru."

And in a translated, that means:

"The republic, which you stand in today, was created in peace, for peace, and by peace. Forever, may this great nation be in peace."

Hopefully, these words have shown you a glimpse of Kalnobia's stand on war.

This first post has been edited - some pictures were a bit repetitive and I wanted to make a better impression

Zdravo! Dobro došli Kalnobsku Tarvlasla!

(Hello! Welcome to the Kalnobian Republic)

Kalnobia is a small nation in the Baltics. The country has the second best economy in Europe, averaging a resident average income of $76,000 a year and a GDP of $16.9 billion! The country was originally founded in the 1200s, but through conquest, it eventually became the Kalnob SSR (Kalnobian: Kalnobsku Tarvlasla Sosilizma za Sojuz Sovetsku) in 1966. After the Soviet Union dissolved, the People's Republic of Kalnobia (Kalnobian: Kalnobsku Tarvlasla Ljudi) was formed, but taken peacefully by the Revolutionary Party of Kalnobia to form the modern Kalnobian Republic.

Today, the tour will take you through our Capital of Talovgrad, which was named after our great president; Boris C. Talov. It has been the capital since the formation of the Kalnobian Republic in 1993. The city's population is around 322,000 in a boundary of 3.6 square miles. It is the only planned city in Kalnobia, and it is the capital and largest city of Estoi Drzava (English: Eastern State)

Some of the city's average neighborhoods. The neighborhoods usually have an architecture and wealth level of their own. The last picture is far from the city center and is not extremely urbanized.

A spread out, unpopulated neighborhood. This is an example of the bad side of rapid development in established countries.

Enjoy, I'll post a map of the country later this week.

Nice to see a former Soviet state with a bustling economy. Nice use of BATs to fit such a nation. Keep it going!

@ jacquilina - thanks! I'm going to focus on history after the whole country is done and posted, so check back soon.

@ jimbo - heh lol. Soviet States and bustling economies usually don't go together, but with a little creativity and a way to make it look realistic and it makes sense 4.gif . Most of my BATs are from ferox (simcitypolska)

@ danielcote - It's definately true that Europe itself is repetitive, but I believe you're right. I kind of let Talovgrad grow on it's own and the simulation's behavior naturally made it repetitive. My next update had a little more attention paid to it, and it has a good amount of purposefull repetition, but it looks good in the next update (atleast in my opinion)

@schulmanator and cg - thanks, I appreciate the comments. You both have interesting city journals by the way.

(Update 1 - Yelsagrad Historical Capital District)

Next up, we will visit the old capital's government district, which includes the historic capital, the Presyu Parliament Building (Kalnobian: Presyu Zegradve Pratstas) and the National Business Square (Kalnobian: Narodshejh Trg Versio). Yelsagrad is known for it's urban sprawl although it is the second most densely populated city in Kalnobia. Yelsagrad is the capital and only city of Zapaladrzava.

Atsuriati Dvara - Vaitu Tseocrda Tarvlasla i Vaitudrzava

(Update 2 - Vaitu Theocratic Republic and Vaitudrzava)

Before I start this update, I would like to educate you on some things about Kalnobian ethnicities. I'll be posting little paragraphs of information to help you understand Kalnobia. There are three major ethnicities in Kalnobia: Migrational Kalnobians (the largest group), Vaitu Kalnobians (the second largest) and Lithuanians (the third largest). Migrational Kalnobians are actually from the balkans, mostly Croatia and Bosnia; and they "migrated" to the Kalnobia region around 1190. Vaitu Kalnobians are descendants of Lithuanians who developed their own culture and language around 12 A.D. and have lived in Kalnobia as a seperate ethnic group since. The Kalnobian language was developed on a combination of Balkanec and Vaitu languages. In 2007, the Constitutional Amendment 30D established the occupied VTR under Kalnobia.

Today, unfortunately, our tour through the rest of Estoidrzava was cancelled due to the eruption of Mt. Chesvir, the second largest mountain in the Kalnob Alps. The eruption has caused global temperatures to drop and skies to darken.  So, we will be visiting the Vaitu Theocratic Republic. A theocracy is government run by the church which has laws pertaining to the certain religion. Since basically all of the Vaitu people belong to Catholicism, it is what the government is based on.

Well it's gotta transition into the middle of Lithuanian nowhere somehow. Where the VTR is located only has a population density of 28.1/km² in real life (Skuodas Municipality, Lithuania) and I'm pretty sure it gets even less dense going into latvia 18.gif

Well, I plop the suburban ones and the skyscrapers and I kinda just leave the rest to the game and demolish anything I don't like 3.gif

sounds kinda n-o-o-bish, but that's not my whole process.

Atsuriati Fesyr - Kalnobsku Imperija Drzava - Payke, Hrvatsku Tarvlasla

(Update 3 - Kalnobian Empire - Pajke, Croatia)

I apoligize for the lack of pictures, it's just a small town!

A lesson in language - You may notice the words "Jedan", "Dvara" and "Fesyr" in the updates so far. You can count to 3 now! Yay! So, here's the numbers from 0 to 10 - Nulai, Jedan, Dvara, Fesyr, Ceyatiri, Pet, Sest, Redorsma, Revorsma, Reladra, Revet

Kalnobia's empire is very small. Kalnobia is not an imperial country because of a thrill for power. Kalnobia's empire is built to solve problems. The country currently occupies the costal town of Pajke, Croatia. Ethnically, Pajke is a Slovenian city. Politically, it is Croatian. The problem is, the city is right by the border. The land was disputed until 1995, when Kalnobia stepped in and solved it by having the leaders of both countries sign a solution stating the disputed town would be occupied and Governed by Kalnobia. Kalnobia has also imperialized a nearby island and Jiaoji Province, China; which was disputed by China and India until 1999.

Today, our tour plane lands in the Zagreb International Airport and we will travel to the coast of the Aegean Sea. On the sea is the Kalnobian town of Pajke (Kalnobian: Payke, Croatian: Pajke, Slovenian: Pajkav). The town has a population of about 10,159. It is the poorest place in Kalnobia, with an annual income per person of about 69813 Kuna (4,291 Preveta; US$11,920)

    pajkejun12061027717634.jpg

The main town - Payke. The whole city itself is 16.11 sq mi (41.73 km2), but about 6,000 people live in this 1/2 square mile. Outside of this part of the city is all mountainous and sprawling.

    pajkedec10061027717707.jpg

Did I forget to mention? Payke is the capital of the Kalnobian Empire. This is union hall, where the representatives from the imperial colonies meet to discuss issues with President Boris Talov and Prime Minister Nasaja Seslovic.

OK. This isn't really an update but I want to make a possible turning point in the CJ. Election Time! Voting will change the CJ's experience in future updates. Please post your votes here in each of these categories:

    President of Kalnobia:

Boris Talov- (Revolutionary Party of Kalnobia) Talov was born in 1959 in Veldoskaya, Lithuanian SSR (Modern day Taletsev). He started the RPK during the Peoples Republic of Kalnobia and after the party started a civil war without his permission, he ended the war and used diplomatic skills to change the government. He then led the country out of it's Soviet Economy and has been president since 1959. His stand on issues: Supports the VTR, Supports Fuel Cell Development, Opposes Reconstitutionism, Opposes Nationalist Economy.

Mašeu Zlatasovies- (Democratic Party of Kalnobia) Zlatasovies is the youngest canidate. He was born in 1984 in Chihiro, Petrova. His family moved to Kalnobia in 1983 and was elected Mayor of Taletsev from 2003 to 2006. His stand on issues: Opposes the VTR, Supports Fuel Cell Development, Supports Reconstitutionism, Opposes Nationalist Economy.

Vendedre Aosvieu- (Communist Party of Kalnobia) Aosvieu, born in 1940 in Szwicicz, Poland; was Deputy Premier of the Kalnob SSR from 1971 to 1993. His stand on issues: Opposed the VTR, Opposes Fuel Cell Development, Supports Reconstitutionalism, Supports Nationalist Economy

    PRIME IMPERIAL REPRESENTATIVE:

Gao Shibi- (Imperial Xiongmao Province, China) Gao (b. 1964) was mayor of Fengqi (the Kalnobian Imperial occupation of China) from 1999 to 2004. He represented Kalnobia's Imperial Occupation in China from 2004 to 2009.

Stjepan Maralajkasovic- (Payke, Croatia) Maralajkasovic (b. 1975) served as the village doctor of Payke from 1997 to 2009. Maralajkasovic is considered a city leader in Payke because of his efforts to improve the village's economy.

    NAME OF YELSAGRAD

Yelsagrad was named after Cory Yelsa, the communist leader of Kalnobia. Yelsa is considered a hero to many Kalnobians for helping the country gain it's first stint of modern independance, but he is also thought of as a villian by others because of his lack of contribution to improving the country's economy and infrastructure. The government is providing a ballot to the citizens allowing them to vote on a new name for the city or not to change the name at all:

    Choice A. Keep it Yelsagrad

Choice B. Rename it to Stebuklavieta (Lithuanian for Place of Wonders)

Choice C. Rename it to Patrana sao Zlato (Kalnobian for Coast of Gold)

Choice D. Rename it to Sevrikec (Named for Kalo Sevrikec, a local peacekeeper during the Civil War in Kalnobia)

    So, VOTE NOW!
