Definitely don't go Sci-Fi. Do a world city / town re-creation or something (those are IMO the coolest CJ's around.)

A commie CJ, with lots of scary pictures of cats that look like Lenin would be your next best choice, then maybe rural after that.

maybe a long story, soviet union type, 1970-1991, then you go democratic, and its a long story. as in make it that way.

My CJ idea is to focus on a city-state and its government (democratic, totalitarian, fascist, socialist, or a mixture), and also its interactions with other city-states in the same region. It brings a lot of diversity into the CJ and enhances creativity -- a recipe for a successful and fun engagement.

A lot of people have mentioned Soviet-style "communist" CJs already, but I confess I have always had a fascination with that idea.

You could also do a sci-fi CJ with a "nucleus" planet and many outlying and small colonies, and mix in hostile and allied aliens as well.

Another idea is to go with a corporate-centered CJ with a huge economy, a laissez-faire government, and market rife with big companies, secret deals, and interesting frauds. No insult to that line of thinking, but it would be an outcome of big business gone wild. Should make for a lot of intrgue.

My last idea is to have the above scenario decline into a large depression, precipitating a communist revolution. That would be interesting.

Wow, I gave myself some ideas. This should be a fascinating thread.
