Rush Hour instl. error

I'm sorry if I'm missing some stickied thread or something, but I haven't had the time to look around the site properly yet.

So basicly, I have installed Sim city rush hour, that works fine, I can see all of my cities on the regions map so everything seems in order. However when I try to play any of my cities, a windows style egg timer pops up, and the game refuses to do anything. The music still plays though, so I assume it hasn't frozen.

So, like every level headed person would, I shut the game down and reboot; same thing happens.

On the third reboot, I notice an error message pops up reading (word for word)

"The configuration file (graphics Rules.sgr) cannot be prased. Using inbuilt rules."

So root around the files for a bit looking for any clue as to what this could mean. And then something dawned on me. Something horrible and painful; the uninstall feature was gone. Vanished. Nowhere to be found. I don't want to lose hours worth of gameplay by directly removing the game, and I can't reinstall SC4 because Rush hour is still there.

So is their anybody who can help me... please.

I;m talking days of gameplay out the window here so help is VERY MUCH APRECIATED.

Can you use the Control Panel uninstall? Save and copy your regions and plugins first. 

As for your 'graphics Rules.sgr' issue, I've seen that pop up on the forums now and then... Maybe a quick search...

UPDATE:

Ok, this is really bad. All of my games have gone inexplicably along with the region Maxisland. The maps with any kind of terraforming are starting to go flat at random and none of the messages (e.g. Are you sure you want to exit SC4?) have no text in them. I'm going to have to uninstall completely but any ideads as to what this could be are VERY much needed. My theory is a virus, but AVG says that the computers clean.

You can back up your regions folder. Go to " C:\Documents and Settings\YOU\My Documents\SimCity 4\Regions\ " and copy + paste the region you want to save to your desktop. Same with your plugins.

You won't 'lose' anything that has been saved in the cities by saving a copy of your regions folder (or just the cities you want to keep). After you re-install the game, you can put them back in the new Regions folder.

Not sure what you mean... From what you mentioned, I took it to mean you had the original SimCity4 and then installed Rush Hour? Since Rush Hour is just an expansion, not sure what compatability issues could come up, unless you have different versions - for instance, a left hand drive original but a right hand version of Rush Hour.

I can't, the region is literaly gone. There aren't any traces of it anywhere in my folders.

I have SC4. I installed it, worked fine and had lots of fun with it.

I then got rush hour. I installed it and it seems to have destroyed my game.

Upon trying to uninstall it, I found that I would also have to uninstall SC4 (origional) too.

I have uninstalled it (I got the message saying if I want to keep save games, so sorry for saying I'd have to delete them) now and am about to reinstall it. I'm hoping that everything will be fixed.

Sorry to hear that... Hear is something you can check. Make a new Maxisland reion. Then, in the Regions folder there is a folder called Downloads. Check to see if there are any city files in it. If so, you might try to import them into the new copy of Maxisland. The game sometimes 'throws' cities into that folder when things happen. Otherwise, it does appear that your originals are gone.

UPDATE:

Okay, so SC4 is reinstalled and the computer seems to have stopped its rampage of deletion. Having checked the regions folder it looks like everything is how it should be, all of my cities are there as is Maxisland and all of the "new cities" (the ones with terraforrming that the computer randomly flattened) and premade cities in their respective folders. But none of are showing up ingame.

I really apreciate the help, but I'm not very good with things like this. Please keep helping me. I can't give you anything back unfortunatly, unless you can suggest something (NOT MONEY)

Glad you got the game running... Now, on to your regions. I have to ask, you are saying that none of the game's regions (yours and Maxis's) are showing in the game, just flat terrain? Did you save your old regions and place them in the game after you re-installed? Are you sure you put them in the My Documents/SimCity 4/Regions folder and not the Program Files folder? If so, you can try this...

*Rename or Move the Regions folder in My Documents/SimCity 4

*Enter the Program Files/Maxis/SimCity 4 folder

*Copy the Regions folder and Paste it into My Documents/SimCity4 folder

*Run the game and see if the regions are normal

If the regions now appear normal, something happened to your originals and are probably unusable. Let us know how it goes and feel free to ask anytime something needs clarified.

Edit: Actually, if you just pull out the Regions folder from the My Documents/SimCity 4 folder, the game will create a new one using the default regions. Thought this might be easier.

Oh, Timbuktu should have been installed with Rush Hour. You're saying it's not in the Regions folder or it's not showing in the game?
