Digital TV Switch delayed. But not for a 2nd time

The only problem I have with this switchover to digital TV is how it'll affect the cheap portable television set I have, which will be most useful say in the event of a storm.  It's certainly not digital, and can't be hooked up to any converters.  Come June 12th( or earlier depending on the station), people might be left in the dark when the next storm hits.  I believe on that basis alone all stations ought to be forced to continue analog broadcasts.

    You dont have a radio?

Most  storm warnings are broadcast on all radio stations.

Now when they convert all the radio stations to digital broadcast who knows.

Yea, you'd be surprised how many people think digital transition = HDTV. I can't believe people fall for that shindig.

Worse, a lot of stations I know of were actually advertising they were "switching to HDTV" (in the "Hey! If you get a 'DTV box' you'll be getting free HDTV!" sense) They're either amateurish, ignorant, or clever. 3.gif

Just for giggles, I put some batteries in my Sony Watchman.   Sure enough, I get those news programs telling me how to convert to digital.

Just another piece of technology that was cool in its time but is now totally useless.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

An estimated 2.8 million people hadn't switched by yesterday.  Apparently, some people were waiting till the last minute because they thought the digital broadcasting didn't start till then.  Approximately 1 out of every 8 analog TV owners still hadn't made the switch.

As of June 13, 2009 12:00 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time, I don't have television. For all those who are jabbing at the procrastinators, I cannot afford a converter box right now. I make $8.05 per hour, and once I divvy out the months rent, utilities, car insurance, food, and gasoline, I don't have much left over. It's not always that we want to wait to the last, some of us have no choice.

I'm using a cheapo 20€ decoder and I've never had a pixelated signal, lol.

Banks used to give cheap decoders as new year's gifts to their costumers and nearly everyone has a decoder here right now quote>

i live in an area with small hills and get poor signal, i'm used to the poor analogue signal since the picture goes a bit fuzzy and the sound a bit rustly but i can make out the words and what's going on, with digital it just show flashes of a highly pixelated picture and a beep noise, i can't tell what's going on from that nobody can.

i don't mind not having a TV signal but i don't want to have to pay the licence fee for a TV which i can't recieve TV from, i just want a TV for videotaapes and DVDs and maybe someday an xbox 360
