Lighten Up

I have seen some pretty grouchy discussions lately we all need to lighten up a little bit (including myself). I think we have forgotten what made this site great in the first place. What made it great was everyone was so warm and welcoming. Now a lot of people take this way to serious. Please try to kindly explain whats a matter in a post if someone does something wrong instead of blowing up on them.

“The American city should be a collection of communities where every member has a right to belong. It should be a place where every man feels safe on his streets and in the house of his friends. It should be a place where each individual's dignity and self-respect is strengthened by the respect and affection of his neighbors. It should be a place where each of us can find the satisfaction and warmth which comes from being a member of the community of man. This is what man sought at the dawn of civilization. It is what we seek today.”

I got fussed out for welcoming someone because they joined before I did and apparently they should be welcoming me. But it was his first post.

I've never gotten fussed out for welcoming someone to a forum...

I agree Huskerman. Things have been getting too tight around here.

Lets let the tension out.
If anyone has the courage (18.gif), they could create a LET IT ALL FREAKIN' OUT thread, where you could say anything you want to say without the risk of it being taken personally by other members.

Stop blowing up on each other!
Make SimTropolis a more welcoming and nice place, folks!

Heheheh 9.gif. I doubt the management would look too favourably at that request. 3.gif Besides, all you would need to do is to pop over in there occasionally and to blacklist a couple of potential enemies who've expressed dissatisfaction at your behaviour/posts etc. 3.gif

But like huskerman said, I think that people are getting a little upstrung at minor matters happening all over the place. It certainly was different a couple of years back when I joined up and even before then. I didn't post as regularly, but you could sense the friendship and jovialty running through the forums. 48.gif

This message of 'be nice to other people as we're getting all angry' has been said before in a lot of other threads, but I suppose too many reminders don't hurt, especially when it comes to such an important issue. 19.gif

I have created a fun thread over in the off topic forum here https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=65290 Hopefully some of the tenseness is relieved here.

    Ah, villarule.

Sarcasm comes from the Greek Sarkasmos from sarkazein- To bite the lips in rage, from sark.
The Root word of Sarcasm literally means To cut a piece of flesh from a person.

Just thought you would like to know that 18.gif

I agree.  There are dangerously high levels of seriously disturbing posts, about 'friendly reminders' and 'concerns' about abuse of things like (shock horror) font size, colour, avatars, picture size, file size, smilies etc.  It is getting a bit silly, i can see obviosuly why the moderators want to keep large files away to preserve bandwidth etc., but i mean people really need to 'get a life' who are fussing about posts with bad subject lines.  Think about all the bad things happening in the world, then people complain if someone types too much in CAPs.  Apart from that this site is excellent, especially the BATs, which really fill the void left by Maxis who hardly supplied any good buildings.

I think you guys said it right. It's been said before, but I have seen so many of those posts, it's just ridiculous, people don't need to take minor things so seriously.

Well p2h5, you've brought up many valid points and I agree with many of them. However, you also need to bear in mind that rules and regulations are required in order to maintain some semblence of order here on ST. If you compare this site to the real world, the real world has rules as well. I mean, we can't play loud music all night every night just because we like it. I mean, we're exercising our freedom, but it impinges on other peoples' freedoms as well. 20.gif

In that sense, large, loud and overly garish font can be seen in the same light. It impinges on the flow of the pages as well. And besides, the rules are made by the administration and represent what they think is the best way to run this site. Yes, sometimes, they may seem minor to many people (myself included sometimes), but the rules do apply. 19.gif

Rules and regulations are required to live but peaple shoudent be so extreme about them sometimes.

If there is a rule broken in a big or small manner the moderator/adminastrator's job is to see to it. Reguler members I can understand, they can maybe lighten up 1.gif

Hmm... I agree... I think I myself have raised a bit of tension especially when it comes to some disturbing topics like the ones you mentioned... I think i won't b doin that again tho. To cool myself down I participate in a few forumn games and that's gud advice on anyone else considering posting silly little remarks about font size, colour, etc. I like viratiy - not people regulating it as if it were a serious crime.
