You know, believe it or not, last time I tried I was able to get SimTower running natively in Windows 7 64 bit. I have no clue how.

And yet it still won't let me play Myst.

I thought this thread had only recently been started, but when I visited the posted sites, I went back and saw the first posts were over a year ago. If I had known about it, I would have been there earlier.

Anyway, I've got myself a great computer which can still use OS 9 classic, so I still got Sim Tower and all my saved games. My most successful tower actually had only four express elevators for about 15,000 residents. I was surprised at some of the designs I've seen posted, but I'd never imagined how much my towers evolved as I learned what worked best.

I'd be interested to see other people's towers if they still have them.

I love SimTower but it will not run on my new 64 bit computer so instead I play Highrise Developer alpha 4. There is a demo around somewhere but it is less advanced than the current alpha (which is on Sourceforge and requires the player to compile it, so the latest version is predominately for developers or at least people with some knowledge of C++ or Python).

Ah... SimTower... It wasn't actually designed by Maxis, only translated and published by them in (mainly) English-speaking countries. It was originally designed by the Japanese developer Yoot Saito (Hence the '© Yoot Saito' text on the boot screen) and is nothing really but an English version of Tower (with some of the *ahem* features removed). Yoot Tower is the proper sequel to SimTower, as Maxis had dropped SimTower. I'm yet to see anywhere that has Yoot Tower for (truly) free though (and I have an original CD-ROM for SimTower). Last time I checked, it ran fine on Vista 32-bit.

There was also an anniversary version made for the Nintendo DS... Pity it was only ever released in Japanese.

How silly of me to never have mentioned it. Maxis had a habit of translating Japanese games and distributing them in English. Maxis was publisher but not developer on SimTower, A-Train, and FullTilt! Pinball (also known as 3D pinball for Windows XP users).

EA holds the right to using the term "Sim(game)" so they are legally allowed to publish SimTower Societies without permission from Yoot Saito.

I help to keep the wiki up to date as AzemOcram.

I've played the game before in Vista. But I could never figure it out.

Also is it legal to download and run. I've played it but lost the CD.

The only way to play it on 64 bit systems is to use the downloaded version. If it is on Abandonia, it is perfectly acceptable to download it. The truly legal way is to pay for it legally and one way is to fill out surveys for "Free DOS Games" because they pay the owners of the titles.

ETA: I found out that the Highrise Dev programmers are busy with college (including me) so if you want to see work done, I would recommend you find some open source C++ or Python programmers.

wow memories of that game. Its a simple but really fun game. Of course having these extensive shopping meccas underneath the cathedral makes it silly

Great memories of a great game. I beat the game a few times and still have the CD and Jewel Case it came in. It still plays on my old 2000ME and Win XP machines just fine. I also still have Sim Isle, Sim Copter, SimEarth, SimCity2000, SC original, SimFarm, Streats Of SimCity, etc. All of them still work on WinXP =)

Just one beer and I can't be beat. Just a whole case and I can't remember, who beat me up.

It would be great on the play station, not very much movement (up, down) not very many other controls (chose, place, delete) and rent space

I am going to have to go to grandmas and find my CD or download it.

To get the VIP's approval, make sure you have a suite with a blue excellent rating (or if you have multiple ones, make sure all of them do).

Also, I had a dream that I was at my college, maybe in a club meeting (I cannot remember) and someone was playing Yoot Tower. I went over to take a look and the player told me that his is a brand new version with a special 3D mode and showed it to me. For some reason, the angle of the tower changed as my angle of vision with the screen changed (like a hologram).

Played Simtower and Yoot Tower before. Yoot tower is much harder than Simtower but it offers more features and gameplay than Simtower.

I never heard of SimTower until a few years ago. I came across it on the Internet, downloaded it, and I have loved it ever since. I haven't played it in a while, but I love some of the dialog boxes like "There are a group of terrorists inside your tower. You can call SWAT for $50,000."

IsoTower is under development and has some videos on YouTube, other (2D clones) have gone quiet, with their forums closing and development continuing at a slower pace on sites like Source Forge.
