trolleybuses for SimCity?

Has anyone thought about making some kind of NAM or MOD to create trolleybuses in Simcity 4? A trolleybus is a bus with overhead wires (just like light rail, but has to have two wires for a complete electrical circuit) with zero emissions and has a cheaper maintenance costs. Many trolleybuses can be found in San Francisco.

Welcome to Simtropolis. PM me or others if you need help.

This is a good idea but alougth I am not a custom content expert I am not sure it is possible.

Welcome to ST.

Your idea is awesome but I think the only folks who can design such a thing is the company that designed the game.

I ain't no computer genius but I would think this would require new props and pathfinding.1.gif

I thought a bit ago that they should have added trams/trolley buses into the Rush Hour expansion, but i don't think that it is something that could really happen, unless it was done in another expansion pack.  I suppouse that someone could modify the normal rail, so it looked like trams on roads, and could change the trains to trolleybus style trains, but it would be impossible ( i think ) to create a dual use (ie. tram and road) network.

I think the nearest we are to this is the ground light railway

... but neither rail nor light rail have overhead wires in SC4. So maybe even Maxis wasn't able to do that... but trams would be cool.

maxis could have put power lines ontop of the roads.  I think it would be similair to the utility power lines already in the game.

It would be possible to switch the buses with trollys, but there wouldn't be any tracks, wires, and it would move around like a bus.

but this idea has been discussed before in a big thread, and it hasn't been made yet, so I don't think it's possible, as much as I'd love to have them in my cities.

Trolley buses and trams are a sign of things to come, I first came across them during my visit's to Eastern Europe and I can't think of a more eco friendly idea, maybe this would be something for maxis to consider if they ever created another expansion pack

Definetely my 4-year old son would encourage Trolley busses, he's a big fan of them.

As I live in Arnhem in the netherlands there are Trolleys and normal busses throughout Arnhem and they are indeed eco friendly and less noisy. I could suggest just to make a different bus lot. The overhanging power wires would probably be best intigrated in the game by making a special roads and avenues (not streets(the grey ones I mean)) with these powerlines. No trolleys are seen on highways.

So I think with all these computer talents on Simtropolis, it would not be too difficult. (yes this is a chellenge to all you out there)21.gif

actually maxis planned to have them in the game but EA wanted to release it on time and so they had to be scrapped to make the release date.i wouldn't have minded waiting a little bit extra 27.gif

I think it may be possible to make every bus in the game a trolleybus (so there wouldn't be anymore gas buses), if we were to develop some kind of catenary, just like the catenary that Fukada released not too long ago. We could place the catenary on the roads and then use the Morifari's bus blockers to make sure the buses stay connected to the overhead wires. And of course, we would have to put overhead poles on the buses.

Less noisy - lucky you... Couldn't remember of more annoying sound than the one this late 1980s beast does when it runs next to my house at 5am 2.gif Fortunately the newer ones are quieter.
