Revenue

I was quite baffled as to why the Maxis Seaport, Airport, etc.  Does not generate any revenue towards the city budget. They are only beneficial towards raising demands for businesses, and whatnot. How come they don't generate any revenue? I think it's illogical having to pay monthly for a seaport, airport, etc just so they can raise demands, but not revenue. This is weird, because you can't really do much without having to get red in your budget books. You can only do so much. Any thoughts on this?

With an increase in demand comes an increase in jobs, an increase in people, and in the end, an increase in tax revenue. The best thing about airports in both SimCity and in real life is that they provide a boost to the regional economy by bringing in businesses. Although I'm sure most airports are for profit, cities don't usually build them just to gain money from them, but instead for the indirect benefit.

Well, that's true also, and I agree with that, but I just wanted a tax revenue coming from seaports and airports as well since they bring in some money for cities.

I think the point is that they bring in better commerce, not just more. So if you want to see some skyscrapers be prepared to build a big airport.

@Argyle: Not necessarily. I don't have airports in most of my cities of my new region, and they're already booming with skyscrapers 3.gif

@Gin: Some airports are actually owned by private companies and not the city, so it itself is a business (like Frankfurt International).

Isnt an airport an important part of transit as well?  I always wondered if the airport helps with traffic.  Do people travel across the region by plane to their jobs?

The game airports, unlike real life, don't carry passengers, just frieght. How much depends on the size of the city's commerial population, and how well they are doing.

    airports are to commercial

    as

    seaports are to industrial
