Great job, but the windows on one side make it look like it has three levels.42.gif

I'm glad that you've taken up the art of the BAT, Alex. Not only am I happy about that, I'm happy that you're doing such a good job. These house designs look very realistic. Who taught you to texture? You learned from someone who knew what they were doing. 4.gif

Well, it's getting there.. I've sorta just done a whatever thing for the window textures (except the front windows).. I'm still pretty clueless for what to do with them. I think I like how things are coming along though. Just gotta add the furnace exhaust, drainpipes, railings, a few textures here and there, a few vents there and here, a bit of trim.. and I think this puppy's almost done!

Anyone have any alternate color suggestions? I'm usually very (probably overly 3.gif ) conservative when it comes to my house colors.

Francis90b: Not sure how much more I could model them.. here's an example of what I've done for the frames.

    modelled.jpg

    jacqulina: Thanks, jacky!

Gn_leugim: Thanks! Not sure what you mean about the walls though.. could you explain a bit more?

SC4@simtropolis: Hehe yes.. that's actually common in a lot of new homes around here. It's just a window at the midway point of the stairs. 2.gif I lost those though due to Gmax crashing on me, so I took out the stairwell window.

DragonAnime: Woah you've been gone a while, glad to see you back! And thank you! I've been mostly self taught, just been nagging a few a guys around here in chat for help getting a few things done.. texturing I managed to hack through on my own somehow.. just did what looked right with a bit (a lot) of help getting roof textures down. Really do appreciate the vote of confidence from you!

nihonkaranws: Hehe, thanks! And I think that you'll find windows in all the holes now. 3.gif

All right, the roof is fixed! That backsplit looks like some of the ones in my neighbourhood.

Personally, I think the colour needs no change whatsoever. I absolutely detest neighbourhoods where every house is a varying shade of white or beige, and I find that vibrant colours like that red house really enrich the area.

It looks pretty close. I really like the box on the side wall that sticks out. I have seen those mechanical type boxes in real life on buildings just like that. It's those kind of details that really make things come alive in Sim City. The big thing that catches my eye in terms of improvements is the roof gradient. To me it seems a tad strong for such a small surface. I would be tempted to narrow the back door just a little bit. It's got a bit of that short and squat look to it. Anyway, you're definitely improving. I look forward to seeing with trim and vents and such.

Well after a little break, I'm back into the swing of things a little bit.. here's what I've been trying to get working..

    buszfw.jpg

Transit center. There's really none in the game, and I can't find any on the STEX so I guess I have to make my own. 3.gif I'm probably going to redo the base, as it looks pretty.. shoddy. I just needed something to base the shelter off of.

Now, does anyone have any suggestions on how to make a shape such as the base is? I tried using just lines connected together, but as you can see it didn't turn out so hot. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I'll hopefully return to the house I was working on previously.. but I'd like to get this guy done so I can get continuing on some cities in my CJ's.. 2.gif

heh good to see you back in the breach..... didnt realise you had a thread.... the house looks great and the transit centre is good so far... well if you make the edge an editable spline you can go into the vertex view mode and convert individual vertex's to bezier curves and use the handles to smooth off those corners... you wont even need to delete the extrude first......

You can draw it orthogonally first, and then rotate it.

Either way, snaps are ultra helpful. In the lower corner of the screen there's a little magnet icon. If you click and hold on it, different options will pop up, which represent snapping in different dimensions (snapping in 2D vs 3D for example). If you right click on the magnet icon a window will pop up with the different snap options.

Yeah, I've snaps before to create window frames and such.. how would it help in this situation though?

Mightygoose: Yeah that seems to be working pretty good.. at the very least it's looking a heck of a lot better. 3.gif

    Whaddya guys think?

    bus1.jpg

I can see I should smooth out a few spots, but overall I think it's improved.

Jason: How so? I've only ever used that function for window frames as I'd mentioned before. Is there any guide that you know of I could read through..?

These are all great beebsy. Lots of lovely homes! You're pretty darn good at BATting.

The transit center looks good so far. I can't really comment much on it since it's nowhere near complete yet. I imagine the pink razor blade-shaped slab will be the parking space for buses and such.

    Cheers.

Well I slapped a few textures on..

    bus4.jpg

    bus5.jpg

I'm not sure about the pavement texture or the side of the roof.. Also really have idea what I should do for the roof itself. I've only ever done houses, nothing like buildings such as this.. anyone have any tips? I'm sorta loosely basing this off a transit center in Edmonton.. here's a picture of it.

    ets.jpg

I tried a lighter texture earlier, but it didn't look so hot. What I have right now is the best that I've tried.

I'm also basing the sign at the end of the pavement off some ETS Transit Center signs..

    bussign.jpg

Just gotta add in the clock and it'll be good to go as well.. The city has a few variations of these sorta signs so I'm planning on making a few variations of this with different shelters and signs.

My suggestion about the roof texture would be a dark gray, grimy one.Although your building seems to be quite recent, i don't think that roofs are cleaned up very often in this type of building, so i think that adding a reasonable amount of grim would be a good idea too,For the other textures, i'd suggest you to take the color you're interested with the eyedropper tool you find in MS paint and make a background with it, then open either gimp or photoshop and add a layer for tonality (just in case you need to modify it, then another one for saturation, a layer where you place the details of the walls (e.g lines between bricks or cracks in the asphalt) and another two for the gradient and the grim.Right now i think that the brick texture is too much saturated and red, and you need to tweak the upper texture as well, since the one you've used reminds me of green-brown, while the one in the pic is definately teal.Anyway it's always difficult to start something really different from what we're used to do, so don't get discouraged and keep on 2.gif.

Getting there.. thanks again to toddy for helping me with the textures last night. 9.gif I think about all I have left to do is slap a few windows in and do a bit of nightlighting ( 15.gif ) and this puppy's almost done! If anyone has any suggestions, please do let me know 4.gif

Francis90b: Yeah, it's not exact but the picture of the real building isn't the best either.. it's actually rocks inlaid in concrete, and I couldn't find anything that I thought would work on cgtextures.. To me, this doesn't look so bad but I'm open to any suggestions of what to put there.. 4.gif

Couldn't sleep.. so I did some BATting. 3.gif

    bus10.jpg

Honestly not sure what to do with nightlights.. I've put one omni in the middle of each "compartment" of the shelter.. should I use more, or..?

Let me know what you guys think, opinions would be highly appreciated. 4.gif

Instead of using omnis, use target spotlights (or target directional lights), and have them point to the ground.

Also, for the spotlights, in the "Spotlight Parameters" roll out, you can choose between a circle or a rectangle, and using aspect, you can change the proportion of the shape.

If you were to do this you could change the light so that it would fit the shape of your room.

You could also just select the glass and type "nitelite" infront of it, and that would probably be just fine too.
