Nice new houses beebs. I like the look of this one, it should fit it well in a small lot, i think becuase of the height. The Porch looks very nice. I quess your finally getting your way through BAT.

Twrecks - The comment about those houses across the street was highlighting the fact that here, in Australia we had similar type of houses and i was trying to make that point, McMansions and all.

I'm attempting a higher degree of detail for this one.. learn as you go, right? 3.gif Personally, I'm  liking what I've produced so far. 3.gif

Do you guys think the roof exhaust is scaled properly? I had a few issues getting it to look decent and I think it's scaled right to the rest of the house.. but I know things go wonky when you export it to the game. 3.gif

    Jasoncw: Thanks 4.gif

T Wrecks: LOL. Ordering houses from a catalog? That's new to me. 34.gif Here we've got showhomes that people can stroll though.

    Jacky: Thanks!

    nihonkaranws: Thanks indeed, sir!

Deathtoall: I attempted scaling it up from the get-go this time. I think it turned out well, so far at least.

    I can't stay away.

Took the advice of.. someone.. nihon? I dunno.. anyway, took the advice of someone and upscaled it for a preview render so you can see detailing a bit better. I've got a few things to add to the front, but I think that it's nearly done.. the front, at least. 3.gif I've got to get on it and start tackling the back of the house. 45.gif

    deathtoall: Thanks!

    Earth quake: Thank you. 4.gif

pingangster: Hehe, thanks! Hopefully I should have some of these houses on the STEX soon. 4.gif

Not bad. Obviously you'll have to scale it back donw for the game! Two suggestions:

    1. You need to adjust your uvw map for the parts of the roof that run on the y axis. The way the singles run up the slope on their sides instead of down is really distracting.

    2. The other thing I would do is punch a hole in your chimney vent using either a tube or a spline (make a circ.e, make a smaller one, attach the smaller one to the larger one and then extrude to desired height). You could also use the boolean tool under compond objects, but that seems a little silly for just knocking a hold in a the centre of a chimney vent. It may not seem like much but having that little black dot where the eye expects it to be will do wonders.

Whoohoo! Just got a few more windows to texture up at the back and the side, and then I think I'm ready for the dreaded nightlighting. I'm going to attempt putting some omni's in so we'll see how that goes. Lighting scares me. 3.gif

    deathtopumpkins: Thanks!

Deathtoall: Heh.. nightlights.. I think that's my next task. We'll see how I do. 3.gif

spa: Ah, I knew something looked off with the shingles! Thanks! Punched that hole in the chimney vent as well. Appreciate the suggestions, keep them coming! 4.gif

    nihonkaranws: Hehe, thanks!

Looks Fantastic Beebs! You are really progressing well! Have fun with the night lighting, just be careful with the omnis, they can lite your model on fire if you get carried away. Does this mean you have an interior? oh boy, this should be good.

Can't wait to see what you have for us next 3.gif

    Looking good!

To be honest though, I don't think the scaled up renders are very useful, since what you get in the game is not that, and what you get in the game is ultimately what you're concerned about.

Also, I think that right now the windows are too dark.

Hey beebs - really amazing work you have done here! You have made some amazing progress for such a short period of time. 4.gif You seemed to pick this up much faster than I did.

A couple of things. First, it appears as though the shingles on the porch roof are smaller than the ones on the main roof. That should be easily correctible if you just stretch out the axis in one direction or another. Second, I don't think it would hurt to have the chimney be slightly taller. I have been working on chimney's a lot and one thing I learned is that because of the scaling they often look very squashed in comparison to the rest of the building. It probably wouldn't have to be much taller, but just a thought 4.gif

Looking great and can't wait to see some more 9.gif9.gif

Hookay.. Everything on that beastie above is essentially done. I'm going to just use the basic maxis nightlighting for now, I can't for the life of me figure out how to get omni's and such to work. And I'm too frustrated with it to spend any more time on it for now. 3.gif

Here's what I've started for my next project though, while I try and fight with the Lot Editor once again.

    cabin1xx1.jpg

Lovely A-Frame cabin/small house. This should be a fairly quick project, after which I'm going to move on to the duplex I had showed some of you guys earlier in chat. 4.gif

    nihonkaranws: Thanks! 9.gif

Deathtoall: Hehe.. toki.s is busy lotting my other house right now, in between his other projects. It'll be done when it's done, essentially. 3.gif

    SimHoTToDDy: Omni's are evil. 32.gif

Jasoncw: Yeah they probably aren't. 3.gif I was just so proud of the step up in detailing that I had, I couldn't help myself, hehe. Too dark you say? I'll try lighting them up a smidge. Thanks! 4.gif

kant01: Ah good catch. I'll get those before I do an export. Thanks! 9.gif

    art128: Thanks! 9.gif

    Gn_leugim: Thank you. 4.gif

For omnis, put them in your house, give an intensity of about 1.3, and give the name the prefix 'nite_'. 2.gif

...ah. That could be why.. I didn't know you needed to give them the nite prefix to work too. Well I'll give it a shot on my versions with other colors. Thanks a bunch!

There's what I've got going so far. I'm a little disappointed that you can't see the sloping of the roof, going away from the house. I don't think there's any real way to exaggerate the rooflines to make it more obvious though.. just the way of the SC4 viewing angles. If you're confused, the next shot will show better what I mean.

    cabin3ls2.jpg

I'm enjoying how things are going on this one though! With any luck, this guy should be polished up by the end of the weekend.

Oh! And I've tried my hand with the lot editor to get something moving on the last project, and I've come up with something bearable. I just need to get it all tested, but with any luck, it should be up on the STEX in the next day or so.. in 3 color variations!

This one looks good. I like the combination of the red walls and the dark roof. Keep it up 4.gif

Looking good! Just don't leave the balcony blue 9.gif. Also the 2 support beams look a little too bright. Other than that I think it's awesome!
