Why does the monorail always fail to make connections to other cities? I tried it many times, the adjecent neighbour city is also on a land tile, but the connection never passes through.

To connect any form of transportation that you drag you must drag it to the city line and click yes when it asks if you want to connect the line to the neighboring city. Note that if the land doesn't line up (edges don't meet) it won't be possible for the line to go through on the other side. PM me if you have any questions.

Make sure you have two tiles clear in the adjacent city.

Yeah, that is what reconcile edges is. Be aware! Everything within the red area will be destroyed! Use it only if you need too! I usually don't have any problem with neighbor edges not being lined up, but that might be your problem.
