Buses over Subway

This is my first attempt to build a mega-city as opposed to whatever I scratch up during my spare time,
so I would appreciate any help what so ever.

This is the layout for the Downtown area <excel same scale>:

As you can see basically buildings in the middle and what I plan bus stops/subway to the side with parks (recreational = R)
facilities in the two squares above.

Now is the time when I am finally making money $7,000/month as well as about $9,000 loan repayments so funding is not an issue.

But I do not like spending $20 ($100 each block) for each station on the corners plus line maintenence when buses do it for quarter of the price.

So what do you guys think?

You could alternate the blocks on which you place the subways, but a combo of both fixed route (subway, EL, or monorail) is best, IMO.

Just go ahead and build it, regardless of the cost. The scale of your income once your city is more developed will be so great that it won't even matter. The only thing to keep close track of is health, power, and water, since the how much of those things you need depends on the size of the city, and their cost will never be made meaningless because of the scale of your city.

It's good to have multiple types of transit (especially buses) because it allows your system to be more dynamic.

You could try for bus rapid transit (BRT) or HOV (High ocupancy vehicle)/ Bus lanes. Just type in HOV on the STEX. Varios mods will come up like placements for bus blockers.

Going to hijack the thread here for a bit. For monorails, rails, don't you have to tear down huge parts of the city?

Yes thats why I use the EL rail included in NAM because you can build roads underneath it. You may also want to use this EL stattion as it fits in with the NAM EL exstention. https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=12345 should save you a lot of space and demolishion not to mention money.

You could try this as well: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=12913&v=1
