Does anyone know how or can assist me in making decent subway/underground maps for CJs? Attached is my first attemt. It is a map for Cacston Metropolitan Area Quick-Link High Speed Rail Project (a.k.a CMAQLHRSP).

Does anyone know a bit of freeware that can do vectors or at least can make diaganol lines with none of the funny stuff around the edge? (i.e. neater)

I have gimp dunno about paint though. If someone could show me how to make vectors with gimp that would be great. Having said that I have tried already with gimp not sure it has a vector button on it and I have version 6.3 (in other words the lastest version).

I will have to try paint.net and bofore anyone says I also have photo filtre and photo scape.

Thank you. I will be sure to try them. If they don't work I wil have to settle for less perfect maps as I was hopeing to make them like the london underground maps. Who cares anyways; it's nice knowing I don't have to pay for adobe photoshop or macromedia fireworks.

Inkscape is the best, I make subway maps in it all the time. 4.gif Make sure you use layers.

Actually, what you've got there looks pretty good already (albeit a tiny little system). So whatever you're doing, it works.

My only recommendation would be that for the corners use quarters of a circle or at least angle the lines at 45 degrees (1:1 slope, easy to see if you zoom in).

MS Paint quite suffices for subway maps, if you know what you're doing, really.

If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.

The map I have attached was made it photofiltre. I will try with quadrents. But the thing is if the train lines run diagonaly then that won't work are it would only be fitting for corners in the track.
