Mod Idea : Additional Building Sets

I noticed that you can change building themes in the game, but there isn't much there; and I havn't noticed a difference by changing style.

I was thinking, it would be kool if somebody released a modpack that added tons of new styles:

East Asian , Futuristic (2050) , etc ...

What would be even more effective is to have modpacks as plugins that would change the theme of all the buildings and mechanics, and can easily be changed by removing and replacing them (load a different plugin for a different region). Not only that, but such modpacks would also replace the terrain and trees to fit whatever building set came with it.

Anybody want to work on such a thing? If not, somebody please please make one. This game is so old without it; its ashame there is no current mod like this in existence. If such a thing were to ever come true, it would bring life back into this game and maybe even lead to an official expansion or something.

Well, the problem is that we can't add any additional building styles, as they are defined in the EXE, which we can't modify. If that was possible, I'm sure there would be a variety of building style sets already (such as those Dutch houses by vanderaap and haarlemmergold, the Hong Kong buildings etc.).

Are you talking about the tile sets they had in SC2000?

In that case, it would be better to make them plug-ins that replace them. For example: an Asian mod that came not only with asian buildings, but modified terrain and Asian trees; the building style sets in the exe would be replaced with different asian factions of buildings such as Japan and South-East Asia.

There is a plug-in which is a Mars mod, so it would be possible for other things too. We should make a bunch for all kinds of themes:

-North America (US West  - US East -  Canada - Military Town) > normal terrain, military vehicles

    -Europe (England - France/Italy - Russia - Romantic/other) > snow capped mountains

-Latin America (Mexico - Brazil - Other) > desert and tropical terrain w/ palms and desert plants

-East Asia (Japan - China - Southeast - other) > lush terrain w/ new trees

-Middle East (Dubai - Iraq - India - other) > desert terrain but greener mountains

-Cyberpunk (2050 - Space Age - Authoritarian - other) > a slightly darker terrain, new vehicles

-Haunted ( Abandoned - Ghetto - other) > a much darker terrain , rioters are zombies , ghosts

This is all possible with plug-ins, just like they did with Mars mod. We need to get the people from the Mars mod over here.

at least the replacing-thing is kind of a way to go if you really want to do it.

but be adviced that it's a lot of work to do. maybe it's best to found a team so different people can do what they can do best to help with it.

I don't think tho that the mars team will do it.

but I guess their expertise will be helpfull if this thing here does continue (what I really hope)

I can gather and sort resources (even change their states), but I don't know how to mod.
