I would like more info on these DVDs before I get them for $45.

1)  What range of buildings are there? For example, are there asian ones, sci-fi ones, real ones?

2) When you install them to the game, what buildings do the replace? If they don't replace anything, how do you use them, and when do they appear?

3) Is it possible to have a building set as a plugin so that you can easily remove it if you want to play with the original game set or some other set?

1 & 2: The STEX DVDs basically have what was on the STEX in 2006. The only difference between the DVDs and the STEX itself is that on the DVD you don't need to use the internet to download things, so it may be more convenient for you. But they're the same .zip files with the same readmes and everything, just as if you had downloaded it from the STEX. Also, there is a new user interface for browsing the disc, but it is similar to the STEX itself. But if you're wondering if they're worth $45, the answer is no. Everything that is on the DVDs is on the STEX for free, plus everything from 2007 and 2008 (which is A LOT of great stuff) which isn't on the DVD is available on the STEX for free. The DVDs are definitely nice to get as a bonus after donating to the site, because you want to support the site, but if you think of it as if you're buying the DVDs, they're not worth it.

3: No, but you can download the SC4 Startup Manager. You can find it in a thread in the Lot Editor & Plugin Manager forum.

Thanks for the info, now I know not to buy it since I can get it to free. Is STEX on this website, or on another? I found a couple nice mods here, but I didn't find THAT much in the way of resources (like they said on the DVD).

Also, did the buildings used by skyliner22's Japanese city come from STEX?

The STEX is on this website (honestly I have no idea how you could not have found it). It has 12,000+ files on it.

There is another custom content exchange at SC4Devotion.com. There are a lot of Japanese BATers but they don't upload to a single site. Info about finding their stuff can be found in the pinned threads at https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/categories.cfm?catid=153&forumid=1

I don't know specifically about the city you mentioned, but ask the author.

The STEX is only around because there is money to power it. And Dirk is not a billionaire, unfortuantly (hes only a millionaire 15.gif), so most of the money that powers the STEX is coming off donations. If you are above 18 and you are downloading off the STEX, I would strongly considering donation, as thats all that keeps the stex going.

Barbyw said that there were buildings exclusive to the stex disk as well so you know.
