NAM puzzle pieces bug, need help

Hello.

I am relatively new here and I have only started playing SimCity 4 a few weeks ago, however I am very experienced with SimCity 3000 Unlimited (SC3KU). I have read a lot about how to play the game and have been directed to download many plugins. Right now I have about 20 plugins.

Recently I discovered that the N.A.M has a GLR/Avenue dual network feature and I've been very exited about it because Melbourne CBD has an identical tram network between its avenues (as you can see in Google Maps). Unfortunately I am unable to use such network due to some sort of bug which affects 5 of N.A.M's features (as indicated by the image below). When I select one of the affected items and then place the cursor over the terrain the cursor turns grey and the tile it is hovering over is outlined with grey. Nothing happens when I click, it just plays the short 'boop' sound. I tryed compressing all the plugins other than N.A.M into a .rar file to see if it was caused by another plugin but nothing changed. If anyone has had this problem or can fix it please reply.

Welcome HNI...

Since you say you just started playing SC4, what version of the game are you running, and did you install the game updates? The NAM requires Rush Hour or Deluxe. And there is an update for them available. I'm not sure if NAM requires the update, but you should get it regardless. Just a thought...

Also, if the reason behind changing your other plugins into a .rar file was to keep them from being applied to the game, you don't need to do that. You can just move the plugins you don't want used to another folder before running the game. Just make sure that nothing is all ready being used in any cities you may have saved. Of course, if you had other reasons, just ignore this.

Yes, I did compress the plugins for that reason.

I am running SimCity 4 Deluxe with the latest update and the latest NAM. PC has all the reqirements to play the game and then some. Also I have windows XP (I am quite anti-Vista).

Hmmm... Well, if you have no other plugins... Does the issue show up in every city, and have you tried to re-install NAM (being sure to totally remove previous installation first)?

Yes It does happen in all cities and I have re-installed NAM several times. Also I have never had a different version of NAM.

Hmmm... (again)... With all those components not functioning, still sounds like an installation issue (to me). Did you use the default selections when running the installation program? Have you tried to download another copy? I've tried various ways to recreate your symptons but can't. Maybe one of the NAM experts will be along with the answer...

I have tried re-downloading and installing with 'recommended' settings, but still no dice.

Hey I fixed it! It was due to a file in the 'Network Addon Mod' folder called 'RHW-public-v012.dat'. I deleted it and voila! Thanks for the support CaptCity.

Ahh... That makes sense. Thought you had taken out your plugins and started over (my misunderstanding). The RHW 12 file is an older version of the Rural Highway Mod, and will cause issues with newer versions of NAM. This is important to remember when installing mods. It is often necessary to totally remove all older versions of some things, and not to just re-install over something. Many times (especially NAM), the downloads come with a list of items that are incompatable. They may even have a Cleanitol file that can be used if you have the program. It is important to read through that material.

Oh, do you happen to have your color cursor turned off? When this type of issue comes up, the cursor is usually red - not gray. Just wondering...

HNI, if you want the RHW mod, there's a more recent version available on the STEX which works with the current NAM, Version 2.0.  Another update, Version 3.0, is currently in the works.

I have only downloaded one version of RHW (the problematic one) but it was obviously an out dated version (I was unaware of this), also I forgot it was installed anyway. Thanks Tarkus for the link to the new one. Also I do have COLOUR cursor turned off (Firefox thinks it's spelled 'color', lol), as I think having a coloured cursor is a complete waste of ...um.... whatever (CPU, ram, graphics power?).

A question: Will the 'Euro-Highway-Textures' mod (that makes the freeways black) interfere in any way with RHW?

If you mean this one for the highways, shouldn't be a problem.
