@delija21: I know, I will add some doorways, thanks. 2.gif

@mosin33: Hey Mosin! Thank you for the comment, and I was thinking about the pipes and the roof, I plan to change it a bit.

About the lights: I actually didn't use any light sources for the inside of the building. Instead, I used a technique called 'self-illumination'. All I did was went to cgtextures.com, and found some really cool pictures of office towers at night, with their beautiful illuminated windows. Then I downloaded the images, cropped them out in photoshop to include only the window. I opened the material editor (you know that) and open the image, and use 'self-illumination' at 100%. This way, at night when everything is darkened, the windows stay nice an bright. This reduces rendering time also.

I use 3dsmax, so I am using a tool called 'nightlibraries', which show a dark window curtain texture in the day, and at night illuminate this way. You can do something similar to this in Gmax, I think, but it might not exactly go this way... But no doubt you should try it! My old STEX release called 'NipponCityBlock' used self-illuminated materials for the billboards, and I was using Gmax at that time.

@nikonkaranws wow sounds simple some what haha. Thanks for your help I will try it ASP for sure. Also is 3dsmax also called autodesk? I download 3dsmax autodesk a trial version for 09 and is that what you are reffering to? If so how do you get work from that program into SC4 renders or into the game?!

thanks a lot for your feedback it is very helpful- mosin!

Actually, 3dsmax is a program made by the company Discreet, and they have now renamed themselves to Autodesk. If you have the 09 3dsmax trial version, then yes, that is white I use (but I use 3dsmax 7). If you want to calibrate 3dsmax for exporting to SC4, you can click on the topic at the top of this section, to get BAT4Max v2.5 (BAT, but for 3dsmax), or get v2.0 in the modds and downloads section of ST. But, I can't help you install it, because I hear that it can be challenging to make it work on max9, so if you try than you may want to contact SimFox for further aid.

Ok thank you........I will probably just stick to gmax, since I got some of the basics down!

Ugh still cant figure out the nightlighting thing.....when I put the texture of a window at night  and have self illumination at 100 do I still put the word nite in front of it? I will have to look at some tutorials?! hhaa

Hey thanks to everyone who posted. 2.gif Happy to see people enjoying my BATs, and I hope to have Nowe Szcoty up on the STEX by this month.

But I do have a question. Right now, the roof isn't looking too good, and I can't come up with any good ideas for the detail on the roof. Do you have any suggestions? I am thinking something along the lines of an antenna, etc... But, I don't know. I think I may try to do a mural on the main roof building, and maybe some greenery growing through the concrete. Anyway, thanks again, hope to see some good tips of advice soon.

One thing you could put on it was exhaustion pipes.. so many homes should have many ovens and other appliances that need exhaustion systems.. even for the bathrooms.. those lines on the roof don't look to realistic as well.. maybe you could even add some drying clothes lines on the top.. not everyone can afford a dry machine 3.gif

I am completely reworking the roof. I made some more railings and a deck, plus some different arrangements for the fans:

Looking very nice I must say. I think the improvements to the roof are great, but still more to be done I think. For a building of this size, Most of the fans might be arranged in a more organized way. You could have most of them in the utility tower, and then another area or two (arranged in rows or squares or what ever the case may be) grouped together and maybe even fenced off. And in between these few areas, you put your vents/ pipes in a somewhat purposeful way (think about how the units line up inside the building and how/ where the vents would be to maximize efficiency). and where ever you have a lot of dead space still, you stick your wires that you had before.

I find your building very creepy, at a glance I think its the one I just finished 3.gif Really great job though,

    ha ha, guys!!

you should be given special award by dear-dear-dear-dear beloved leader Kim! The stuff you are making is actually very much North Korean! We should call it Pyongyang, or "Kim-i-Land" series :-)

Speaking about the building... I can't shake the feeling that it is too "fat" for it's type. Depth of such a structure should be somewhat UNDER 15m. The one on the preview seem more like 25+... Of course, this is a matter of opinion...

Speaking of a roof junk building of that type wouldn't have this type of junk at all... no Fan! Just chimney type of things. Also the location of the roof house is a bit odd Either you should make couple of them - by the number of elevator stacks, or, if there is only one in your house (although it is a bit strange for the house of such size and type) it should be around the central axis of the roof.

Texturing wise... if you want to use "seems" between slabs type of texture you should take care that those seems appear at logical places. In your case seems tend to come right smack in the middle of the window...

HEY nihonkaranws- I was thinking and I had a great idea for you. I think you should make a small industry pack. Make say, mabye 4-5 lots all under  2 x2. Mabye make some low or high wealth industry for a 1 x 1 tile. Those would be very useful. I know you would be good at this.

If you have no intrest in this that is fine. I see you are getting more intrested in commie blocks haha.

I do not want you to make something you dont want to because it wouldnt be as good.
Tell me what you think about this..

Back! Here is an update on Nowe Szkoty. I took SimFox's suggestion to make it skinnier, and to add two rooftop houses... I also made the smaller sides more plane, since in a block like this the apartments would normally be along two sides, rather than all sides. This way we get exit staircases!

    Anyway here is the render:

Hehe, now were talking. You are refining this more and more each time and getting closer to something very realistic and (more or less 3.gif ) beautiful.

I think there is still work to be done on the roof I think, I don't like the diagonal ones now that you added the second utility tower. This is always awkward since your not really sure what else to add and in what quantity, but just try a few things and see what works. Stairs looks really fantastic though, I can see the steps!!!

And textures will get some adjustment (the wall in particular) yes?

Either way, looking great (and a lot more like mine 3.gif )

Nice work! This will go great next to SimHoTToDDY's building once they're both released. I do think the roof texture might be a little bit clean: try making the roof darker where it meets walls to give it the look of grime and tar accumulated there. Otherwise this is a great building!

YO, yeah its done..........so realease it please!! (well if it is not too much trouble dirty up the roof!) its perfect. I dont know how you are going to lot it but i would suggest there should not be very much room around it. Mabye make put it on a couple of different lots sizes!

    nIce work

Not bad, not bad at all. I know it's supposed to look commie, but all the same I think it needs a little colour on it somewhere.

Oh, and well done with winning 'Most Improved'. I wore that all last year like my little badge of honor, now you've got it.
