"Deguassing" an LCD Screen

I have noticed a small yellow, vertical line running down the screen of my laptop. It isn't related to the video card, as it went away when I connected it to an external monitor. Printscreen also refuses to show it, so I can't get a picture of it.

Is there any way to reset the LCD screen to get rid of it, or do I have to by a new one?

I got nothing.   But have you tried googling "laptop screen yellow line" and seeing what kind of advice is out there?

Laptop screens can't be degaussed. What it sounds like is you have a whole line of stuck pixels (if they were dead, they'd be black). You can try the variety of stuck pixel remedies. If they don't work, you're probably out of luck in that it's not fixable but it's not going to cause any problems other than...the large line of stuck pixels. If it really bothers you, you'll need a new laptop (or send it in for repairs if it's under warranty!)

Is your laptop a Thinkpad? I saw a Thinkpad with a similar problem at work this summer.

Nope, the infamous Pavilion zd8000, the warranty ran out about four years ago. I had to replace the mobo last year because the video card died (not fun), and took it apart in July to clean it out, in short, I have had some problems with it before.

Its not annoying, just noticeable. What remidies would you recommend?

Is sounds like one of the "driver lines" .. the transisters which drive the vertical and horizontal scans .. is stuck on.. this causes that line to be always on and appear to be just a line of single color... just a guess.. and I'm guessing also that you can't fix it without replacing the screen on your pc

I'm going to rebuild a second time it sometime in the next couple of months to clean it out and prevent it from overheating (as I had to get a new motherboard last year because the video card failed). I'll check the connector for any obvious problems.

Many LCD screens have this "Line" , its nothing unusual. It is usually not noticed unless your looking for it. Some LCDs are getting around this problem. Is it really strong and easy to notice?

also - it was kinda hard for me to get my reply in.is there anything wrong?
