Wow I haven't posted here in .. forever ..

Hi all, I'm looking to come back to playing SC4. One of the things that steered me away from playing was the system requirements, SC4 just became unplayable with too much custom content, and I dropped it for awhile.

I'm building a new computer, and I'd like to know if you guys have had success with SC4 and Intel Core 2 Duos or Quads.

Please let me know, thanks. (Also, if you have any tips for a first time computer build, let me know as well.)

I have an AMD... but, I believe that since SC4 doesn't utilize both cores (don't qoute me, correct me if i am wrong) I would assume that getting a quad core wouldn't be any faster than a Dual core of the same GHz. My best advice when building a new system would be to spend lots of time researching the parts you are going to get. To insure the best compatibility now and for later on down the road (in case you decide to upgrade). This really applies to the Memory and Video Card(s) and if you are going to be overclocking and/or running SLI. If you are just going to run standard speeds and one video card, stick to the good brands, you will have a great reliable system.

I'm running SC4 on a single core, and it runs just fine.

I think your biggest issues lie in the amount of RAM and what kind of graphics card you have.

On Newegg.com you can get some great cards (Both Kinds) for super low prices.

I'd recommend looking more into those.

Although, just for all around speed on your computer, the quad-core would be best.

My specs are in my sig line and it runs SC4 deluxe beautifully.

Cody426: You are right it does NOT utilize two or four cores...only one

Memory and Video are the two major issues.  I wouldn't hurt upgrading to 4GB and possibly an 8800GTS OR if I decided to upgrade to a PCI-e board then most likely a 9800GT, even at the sacrifice of ½ the RAM it will run great.

I have a Core2duo, and a Core2quad, all cores are used.  If you have Vista, and use the sidebar, you can get a CPU meter that so which cores are used, and how much.  Included with the meter is also a memory usage meter.

The quad core is running Vista, and it's much more stable with SC4 than the XP machines.

I think Vista may better manage cores and spread applications across them. XP does not do this. As for Linux, I have not tested it yet to see if my AMD X2 does this. Seeing as it is XP emulation I am lean towards no.

I am unlucky to be running on an intel celeron - 1 gigabyte of ram(ahh.. thats better)intigrated graphics(look at my signature)a 40 gigabyte hard drive(very slow)and windows xp.I have over 100 mb of plugins , any better computer should work just fine - and its largely the ram your worried about. (but the CPU is important too).
