Ok, I was having some issues earlier and couldn't figure out the dimensions that were correct to create regions in SC4. With a little math and patience, I came up with the following table. I will try my hardest to explain this, if you have any questions let me know, and i will answer what I didn't make clear in this post.

The scale below is arranged by pixels and cities. The pixels represent the dimensions of the grayscale map that is to be rendered into the game. the cities column represents the dimension of the large cities that will fit into the imported region via grayscale.

All the pixels are x themselves. So it would be as follows, 257x257, 321x321, 385x385, etc.

The cities column represents the large cities that will fit into the region. These are all perfect square cities. All the blanks under the cities column that appear next to the pixels are maps that don't fit a perfect amount of large city squares in them.

The typical city size is16x16km, which equals 1025x1025 pixels, and 4x4 large cities, making a total of 16 large cities in the region.

I hope this help fellow map makers in making their regions easier without having to do the math every time! lord knows I was doing it, until I came up with this.

<edit> Im not sure what is going on with the titles today, but can a mod please fix the title on this one? The multiple apostrophes showed up again. ugh.....

Thanks for this. This will help me create accurate sized config.bmp files to go with my region. I'm so glad I didn't have to do all this math. 2.gif Thanks for your continual dedication to making life easier for Simman. 18.gif

    Hello,
My question is not really related to your guide, but its in keeping with the general idea of scales9.gif.Also, before anybody screams at me, please consider that i've searched for an answer all over to no avail.  I figured that since you lads are map experts you should know, or so i really really hope.  So without further ado: in the RGB scale of 0 to 255, what in does each point represent in meters in game?
Crossing my fingers, hoping for answer42.gif.

Well, without any mods for changing the scale... it is 3 meters per greyscale difference.

So, while the 84-greyscale is about 0 meters, the 150-greyscale is around 198 meters.

The maximum, or 255-greyscale, is 513 meters.

    I hope this helps. 19.gif

Hmm... well, I know it does affect it. I'm not sure how, though.
