I am running Simcity 4 Deluxe from Simcity Box, and having trouble saving my cities.

I've installed the update, and installed the AMD update too.  My game ran and saved just great at first but now each time I save a city I get a error.

I increased virtual ram to 9Gb and cleared temp files, no change.

Spects; WinXP SP3; ZoneAlarm firewall; SpywareDoctor/ Antivirus.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600 Am2 CPU; 3GB Ram ; Sapphire HD3450 512MB DDR2 PCI-E 2.0.

I must be missing something here, any ideas or feedback welcome,

This is my first post here and I plan to be a regular (got a lot to learn).

thanx .....rcguy47

Hey what is the AMD update? I have an AMD processor... perhaps that update might help my game run more stably and crash less.

Welcome to Simtropolis!  We look forward to your participation on the forums.

Will it save if you are in your city and you hit the Ctrl-s keys?  How about if you do Ctrl-Alt-s?

Hi Cougar;  I'll try your suggestion and let you know how it works out.

The AMD update I mentioned is at AMD's website. It corrects any timing problems between CPU's.  This is the link to it  "AMD Dual-Core Optimizer Version 1.1.4"

    http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html

You posted five times!!!!! Quintuple post!

What kind of error do you get? What does it tell you, or does it just crash to desktop? Did you install any programs or plugins after SimCity 4?

Ummmm.....I have the Box Set deluxe version as well.

The Deluxe Box Set Version is only Vista Compatible........

Look at the requirements.... Installing a Vista Comp. game to a downgraded XP is not wise.

    I have tried it....

    So I got Vista....and TADA!

Hmm, are you running any other programs during the saving? Have your computer got infected with computer viruses (that happened to me, and the virus went around and destroyed or corrupted all of my SC4 files)?

Hi again; Sorry about the quints-post, I,m just about out of patience with this and clicked the 'Reply to Topic' an extra time [or five].26.gif

The error message is 'error saving game' and The same error comes up if ctrl-alt-S or ctrl-S is used.

I uninstalled the game and re-installed ; same results.

The game is a separate DVD from 'the Sim City Box' that has five games in it. I installed SC4 Deluxe-Edition. Compatable with WinXP Service pact 2, and Vista.

I shut down very thing I can when running the game, except my Antivirus. And I have had a problem with a Trojan-Downloader virus that I can't seem to get rid of. This is a real nasty one that re-appears each time I reboot my desktop.

Any ideas would be welcome. Maybe I should wipe the hard drive and reinstall XP?

hmmm. Honestly in the same situation I may reformat my whole drive. That sucks, sorry to hear that. Have you tried any on the on-line virus scanners like "trend micro house call." I dunno if it is the strongest virus scanner out there, but it is decent and does me well. if you decide you would like to use it, go to google and type in "online virus scanner" I beleive it is the first search result. Good luck :/

So are you guys saying that SimCity 4 Deluxe doesn't work (or at least doesn't save) on Vista?

I was given Vista Ultimate as a gift for Christmas, and I was going to build a new computer to replace my last build (from 2001) that im using right now for SimCity 4 Deluxe. But perhaps this isn't a good idea, and i should keep my Windows 2000 machine to play the game.

Has Vista worked flawlessly for any SimCity 4 Deluxe player here?

There are a multitude of users running SC4 on Vista, myself included. I have the deluxe version and haven't had any problems since I first installed it. In fact it is more stable on Vista than it is on XP Pro.

rcguy47: There are several free spyware programs you can get at tucows.com, or cnet.com, try one of those.
