Just a few things I have noticed . . . .

In Global Mapper

When measuring with the ruler try holding down the left shift key.

It should override the scroll arrows that get in the way.

Cleaning out old Global Mapper shaders

Go to

C3.gifrogram FilesGlobalMapper6

open the file 'custom_shaders.txt' with notepad

delete the contents of that file (but not the file itself)

close and save the file

Next time you open Glabal Mapper all your custom shaders will be gone.

You could also (I have not tried it, but do not see why it would not work)

edit out the shaders you want to get rid of and save those you want to

keep.

Mystyx: To avoid this annoyance at sea level, set your colour to just above sea level.

For instance, if sea level is 84, use 85..

if sea level is 20, use 21... etc.,

It seems to make 1 meter pits around the map for every map that is flat. 'Reconcile edges' will not cure this as they are already reconciled (and very messed up!)27.gif

This is not an image compression issue, instead it is just a rendering engine shortcut issue. I wish we could mod the rendering engine-- that would be totally Out of control.

Nice looking island, btw.

Thanks for the tips, guys!

RiverCocytus... I believe there is indeed a way to mod other rendering properties. Somebody was looking in to a similar problem:

Is there anywhere to download the higher mountain mod while the modds section is down? I can't find it anywhere. :-/

I have a problem here...I followed the whole thing step by step and at the end when I tried to configure the region in-game, I got an error message saying that the image size I had was wrong and that it should be 1x1 instead of the dimensions it was. I saw someone else with this problem and there was never a solution reply. Was this a screw-up somewhere in the process?

Oh, and also, I'll give you the exact error message:

Region Generation error

              Region bitmap size is incorrect--

              897x641, should be 1x1

By the way, I wasn't doing Vegas, I was doing my hometown with the same steps.

Ok I'm trying to understand this from the initial post. I'm trying to do Lexington, KY. The Long and lat is 38N and 85W. I have downloaded the the right files wo I still can get it to 38.03N and 84.44W. I downloaded 38N and 84W 37 and 84W and It says download the two closests but what after that. Maybe I'm not reading this right but please give me a little heades up. I'm using Global MApper 7.04. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Hope this makes sense.

Hey, I do have one more question. It's not so much about a problem as much as a horrible inconvenience.

It has to do with land levels within my regions. It seems that when I don't use a mod while rendering, my region is underwater, but on the flipside, when I do use a mod, the land is too high and I have to manually lower it with the Lower Terrain tool. (This is what I had to do for both Scranton and the map of Easton I'm working on now)

Is there any way to specify where the height should be? I know you have a broken link to andy's higher mountain mod, but I guess that mod is different from the mod I got by Mayspacy.

With no height mod:

Greyscale 0: 252 meters (827 feet) below sea level

Greyscale 84: Sea level

Greyscale 255: 513 meters (1683 feet) above sea level

Other points of reference...

Greyscale 50: 102 meters (335 feet) below sea level

Greyscale 100: 48 meters (157 feet) above sea level

Greyscale 150: 198 meters (650 feet) above sea level

Greyscale 200: 348 meters (1142 feet) above sea level

Ok, I think I understand what you mean. You're saying that to solve my problem I have to make the color of the land closer to the water color in the grayscale image. Because what is happening is that when I render the regions all along the rivers there are cliffs, which represents the color differences. Any tips on making ALL of the colors except for the water lighter?

Yeah. If you have iDraw, you can click the option "Show colors used in the picture" on the pallette. Then, the water should be much lower than the rest. So, select the first land color, and lower it to just above "Sea Level." Then, drop the highest used color by the same amount, and use the "Gradient" tool to make all the colors in between work as well.

Then, finally, open it in IrfanView and re-save it as a greyscale jpg.

I have one problem. I can't connect to the site link. All I get is my browser searching and then a ftp message that says I should verify if I am authorized to connect to thsi site.

Sorry I found out that turning off the firewall corrects the problem.
