idk what's shocking when a criminal is found guilty... and I don't give a thought about who that criminal is... drug-addicted Jimmy* from round the corner, a disadvantaged former celebrity or the pope.

But, folks, rejoice, he can still write his book in prison!

Regardless of whether or not he committed a crime I have a lot of mixed feelings on a larger level.  Probably b/c of what our culture went through the first go around.

The murder of his wife, O.J.'s arrest, and then his subsequent criminal and civil trials, imo, ushered in a tabloid-silly era of frivolity in the nineties where serious economic, cultural, and foreign policy and safety issues were totally ignored.  That era was brought crashing back to Earth after 09/11/01 and we are still paying a hangover from that lack of attention back then even today. 27.gif   It also was a reminder that we've not come as far in racial relations as we would like.  27.gif

When I listened to the news I'm not sure if the D.A. had enough evidence to convict this time around and I'm not entirely unconvinced that this could have been a set up.  But I do believe that set up or not he was certainly stupid to do whatever he did.  I also think he's quite profane to let himself think he could escape w/out consequences despite being under a societal microscope.

My gut tells me that for good or for bad he'll now be locked away for life, that society will excise its past and also try to relieve possible racial guilt in other ways.  And I'm not sure looking to that either.  Thanks a lot for nothing O.J. Simpson and society!

why is this case so special?

Many people are sentenced to prison for their whole life and never get any attention on the media.

Well quite frankly, so far across the day, it hasn't gotten close to a fraction of the media attention that the events of 13 years ago did. Count your blessings!!!

I heard that same thing in a sandwich shop today.

Well, the guy said "Now, that is karma" but let's not get picky.  3.gif

Excellent points, Joe.  I never did understand why, as a nation, we should care who is dating whom or who the baby daddy is or the latest airhead's current juvenile stunt.  "tabloid-silly era of frivolity".   That's a good way of putting it.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis
