New Effect Props

I was able to make some new prop effects using effects we dont normally have, heres just an example in this screenshot, you may recognize this one as the effect you see when obilerating a city.

This test prop goes off at 12 pm and does the sparkling, flashes and the shaking of the screen.

    It seems I might be able to make some psuedo random disasters, I got the earthquake effect to work so far, it shakes the screen and does the rumbling sound, no dmg at all though unfornately. This is being done with a prop, I believe there is a random chance property for props based on a percentage so this could be interesting to see what I can come up with.

    Ok this mod is going to be bigger than I originally planned so it will be a while, I'm up to 50 new things to add to the LE, I have to figure out how I want to set them up with base times and this mod will carry a big DISCLAIMER, alot of these effect are good for blowing things up, I've gotten parts of the disaster effects to work, My favorite for urban renewal is plop the lot instant jet bomb hehe. Some of these can be used for interesting things, like the tornado  black cloud, could use that as a swarm of locusts on farm lot etc.  The possibilities this will open on new lots, is going to be big. Most likely this will be done on Wed., as that is my day off from work.

    BTW any chance u can convert lightning into a effect prop instead of a simulated prop? i mean where you can actually see the lighting shown in a large size at every zoom. and so that it create a flash and make a sound too? thanks

    Im working my way down a list of things, I'll see what I can do with the lightning prop, some thing just dont work right becuase they are made up of multiple effects and I cant seem  to get them all to become 1 effect. I think after this mod I will have added about 1000 props to the lot Editor.

    ALTX, I have some good and bad news about the lightning, the good news is i got it to work properly, the bad news is, it works like the disaster, when it hits the  spot , it starts a fire so you must have fire coverage or byebye lot. Has the sound, white flash and the shake.

    thats actually pretty cool, besides lightning is ineffective if there is any fire coverage and when the simulator is paused

    EDIT: Also can I take a look at it? I want to see if I can learn from your techniques, I also want to see if it is possible for the lightning to NOT shake the ground.

    I dont think the effects are editable, Im using a hex editor to find the effect names and writing them down as i go, and just throwing them into a test exemplar I have set up. Im not even halfway through the file and i have almost 60 now to make. I'll try to upload it tomorrow before I leave for work, I have to get sleep before work right now, modding is making me lose sleep because I hate leaving things I'm in the middle of working on.

    The effects aren't editable...yet, but DarkMatter and I are working to make them editable.  Out of curiosity, which file are you using with the hex editor?  The Effects Directory file is the one that contains all of the effects and the one that we are working to create an editor for (actually, DM is doing the programming, and I'm just trying to figure out how the file works).  I could get you a complete list of all of the effect names if you'd like.  I believe that there are around 1200 or so.  Anyway, let me know if you'd like the list.

    I have the a list of the names, most of them arent really usable effects though, some depend on something else or another effect, this happens mostly with the disaster effects, I can get certain parts of them to work but not others, I believe this due to the fact they depend on values from exemplars to properly be seen.

    On that note, here is a preview of the new ReadMe files I'm going to start using with my mods, this is the one for the effect props, it has screenshots of the effects I have done so far.     Ok this mod is now released at my website under the misc. mods section, I hope you all enjoy these because I think this is my best prop mod yet.

    I wanna see that apparating money effect on ALTX's Simoleon Trees.  And that effect you see when you complete a good UDI mission would be cool to see when you plop it, too.  <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif>  Maybe I'll do this myself ...

    I've got another effect prop for anyone who's interested.  After several months of studying the Effects Directory, I've finally created a new one from scratch.  Here is a picture of it in action:

    As you can see, it is just a simple raincloud prop that produces rain from 8am to 8pm.  Since this is my first real attempt at this, it is still relatively rough around the edges.  For example, the clouds only show up after the rain starts and the cloud does not create a shadow.
     
    Anyway, enjoy.  Hopefully we'll be able to create more effects in the comming weeks.

    this prop pack is simply amazing!!
    totally mindblowing and extremely usefull! I can already think of a few things to use them
    edit: i made this today:/idealbb/files/demon
     
    the sparkles are great! and I love how a lot really starts to burn when you put the molotov effect on it!

    I will try to make something up to explain it to ya in the next few days (might take a week, though).  I'll warn you now that it requires building a new file basically from scratch (and completely in hex).  Fortunately, the new system that I've developed to create version 2 of the raincloud helps to make things a bit easier, but it is far from beginner's level modding.  You might want to take a look at the DISCOVERY: File Formats, The Unknown Formats (EDIR,AB,AE etc.)   thread in this forum.
     
    Anyway, I have attached version 2 of the raincloud prop.  I darkened the clouds and increased the amount of rain.  I have also managed to create a shadow for it as well.  Unfortunately, I still haven't been able to figure out how to get the clouds to appear before the rain.  Here's is a quick screenshot:

    For some reason, the shadow didn't show up in the screenshot, but it is there.
