    Rocky Island

    Update 1: How it Started

    Introduction

As many of you may know, I have recently entered the world of City Journaling with the City Journals Apollo, Woodland Valley, and Woodland Island. My first City Journal, Apollo, was a Science Fiction City Journal that focused around a Nexis of Genesis like theme, and my last two City Journals, Woodland Valley and Woodland Island, were more themed around a discovery of a nation that was soon colonized. They were all ended due to my feeling that they were inadequate and progressing far to slowly, along with the fact that they were not planned out well at all. So now, after a few days of planning this City Journal, playing Simcity 4, and editing my photos in Irfanview, I give you a new City Journal. This City Journal will focus mainly on the land mass know as Rocky Island, and you, the viewers, will help make some of the decisions that will make or break Rocky Island. In other words, each update there will be a poll that you will be asked to vote on, and the questions on it could range from starting a war to adding a bingo hall in the city. In conclusion, I hope you enjoy this City Journal, and please, take the time to vote in the poll.

    The Dicovery

So far the day had been slightly abnormal for millionaire and philanthropist Henry William Patterson, he was currently aboard one of his many industrial seafood ships that traveled the Atlantic Ocean looking for seafood ranging from clams to shrimp. The day was abnormal due to the fact that instead of spending time with his family or golfing eighteen holes at the local country club, he was on one of his company's seafood ships. However, Patterson was not mad or angry that he was on the ship, in fact, he liked the ocean no matter what type of vessel he was on. Although, on a normal day he would be on one of his yachts, but this was no normal day. Today was what was coined "Inspection Day" by Patterson, a day where he would go on one of his company's ships and observe the work his employees were doing, becuase after all, he wasn't paying them to sit around doing nothing. But, while he was supposed to be observing his employees he was actually up in the captains area, watching the ocean ahead of him. But then he noticed something, it was no longer ocean in front of him, it was a giant mass of land. He turned to the captain of the ship and asked how they could be seeing Long Island when they had passed it hours ago. The captain quickly replied that the land mass in front of the ship was not Long Island, it was an unknown island off the coast of Connecticut, something that was not known to exist. The captain then explained to Patterson how they had seen the island before but had never really thought about it.

The location of the ship when they spotted the island:

    OceanPlains-Apr1001220038401-1.jpg

Patterson then ordered the captain of the ship to return to Connecticut and dock there. On the following day, the ship that discovered the island, along with 4 other ships filled with building supplies and employees with construction experience went out to the mysterious island.

    The ships:

    OceanPlains-Jul29001220038590-1.jpg

Once on the island, they constructed many buildings including residential housing, a mayors home, a hotel, and a ferry dock.

The mayors home where Patterson and his family moved:

The Hotel Zaza where tourists stay:

    A commercial buisness district:

    A ferry dock:

    OceanPlains-Oct7011220042422-1.jpg

While digging on the island, the construction workers noticed a black liquid gushing out of the ground, and they soon realized that it was oil. Patterson then ordered a whole industrial district built.

    Some Information

After the construction on this island stopped and all the residents were moved into their homes, it was officially declared a country, seeing it was out of the jusisdiction of the United States of America. Then Patterson was unanimously elected president of this new island. His first act as president was to name the island Rocky Island and name the small settlement Ocean Plains.

I'm liking this CJ so far. I haven't seen much of your previous work, but I'll have to check it out. I love your terrain mod, and the city looks good as well. I like how there is a lot of custom content, and the residential looks like a place I would want to live in. You say you have the NAM, but I would recommend reinstalling with road turn lanes enabled. They make your cities look a lot more realistic IMO. I'll be reading.

Looks like a good start with even better potential. However I would really like to see some wider area shots so I could get a better feel for the layout of the entire city/region. I did like the background story.

Well let me say I'm impressed with the number of replies you've got. Its a great start to your new cj! I really look forward to more, I love those flags.

One reccomendation though. As an experienced suburb maker, I think you should give a more original form to your suburbs, rather than a simple square. I see that you took my advice on not using avenues on suburbs, and that's something good!

I personnaly like the thing that there is a lot of oil here. Maybe you should base your main income and economy in oil. Maybe trade for other goods. As the president of La Republique Unie de la Banlieue, I would like to import oil from Rocky Island and export a good of your choice.

    Great work!

On the Photobucket issue: It would be a great idea to make backups of photos you have posted on hard media such as a CD-R or an extra hard drive. Just my idea to avoid losing images.

    Rocky Island

    Update 2: Residential Development Booms

    Replies

CraigKingOfIreland: Thank you, but the double post was only to reserve my Table of Contents.

Art128: I'm glad you enjoyed the first update of Rocky Island.

Schulmanator: That means a lot coming from the innovator of the world of City Journals.

Tia-may: I agree, the pictures are one of the stronger points of Rocky Island.

Mother of Invention: The reason I do not use god mode trees is because they don't match Peg's Seasonal Trees.

    JJC12321: Thank you.

Timemaster: I hope to see you back here soon.

Phoenix7: Unfortunetly, it will be hard to check out my previous work because the images have been removed from Photobucket and they no longer show up. However, thank you for all your compliments and  I hope to see you back here soon. On a different subject, I don't really like the Network Addon Mod road turning lanes (I have installed the avenue turning lanes), but I guess that is a matter of opinion.

    Fabsies55: Thanks for the comment.

    Jacqulina: Thank you.

Feliwi: I'm glad you liked Update 1 of Rocky Island, and it is quite a coincidence that our flags look the same.

    Roboo1: Thanks.

Timemaster: The next update should be coming soon.

Matrx999: Thank you, and wider shots will be shown next update.

Manubeas: Thank you for all your compliments, and I will be happy to begin trade with La République-Unie de la banlieue soon.

Jacqulina: It will be here soon.

Tia-may: Thank you for the advice, but I really don't want my previous City Journals to be shown because, they are kind of... horrible.

    Introduction

Hello, and welcome to the second update of my City Journal, Rocky Island. Today I will be showing you pictures of further residential expansion, along with new industrial zoning. But before I start, I would like to thank CraigKingOfIreland, who photoshopped the logo for the newly founded Rocky Island Petroleum Corporation.

    Rocky Island Petroleum Corporation

First of all, here is the logo for the Rocky Island Petroleum Corporation, which was founded after oil was found on the island (Thank you CraigKingOfIreland, your photoshopping was amazing):

    RockyIslandPetroleumCorporation.jpg

As you can see in this next photo, the dirt roads leading to the oil wells became clogged with congestion and they were paved:

    OceanPlains-Sep25071221337577.jpg

Here is a shot of some new industrial development, which was a result of a recent residential zoning plan:

    OceanPlains-Sep25071221337598.jpg

    Residential Zoning

This next photo is of some more residential development (notice the diagonal roads):

    OceanPlains-Sep25071221337491.jpg

Here is a close up of a new park know as The Ocean Plains Green:

    OceanPlains-Sep25071221337431.jpg

The last picture for today is an overview of Ocean Plains:

Side Note: Once again, I thank CraigKingOfIreland for his photoshopping.

Matrx999: Thank you, I will probably show a city shot next update.

Manubeas: Thank you for all your compliments and your continuous support on my City Journals dating back to Apollo. I will take your advice in following updates and I would be happy to make a deal with La République-Unie de la banlieue (I sent you a Private Message).

    Jacqulina: Thank you.

Tia-may: That is a great idea, however, I did not feel the need to do that because I did not want my old City Journals to still be displayed. They were kind of, well... horrible.

Very much pleased with your CJ....

Although i do agree on some of what manubeas said about avenues in your suburbs i also do not. If your avenue is say going north and south direction....make sure there are commercial zones at either end....AND....even better....make sure that the avenue has direct paths to an airport....Airports are really only best for commercializing when the traffic has a direct line from airport o commercial....NEVER should there be a a main interstate from airport to residential....

( My father is part of the zoning commission of Chicago... )

VINCENT, that would be a cool job. But lets talk about the update. The town looks very pleasant with all the trees, and the bright terrain mod makes the town look cheery. I have to download that.

Well I definetly like your photo editing, and that custom content and logo are terrific! Still a bit of work needed on those suburban areas and I know you've been quite busy lately, so you tell me when to start traading, I know my City Council and the vicepresident (oh wait, thats you3.gif) will be happy about it.

keep it up and I hope to see a new update soon,
