Devon Energy company announced plans on Aug 20 to build this massive 925 footer for OKC, current tallest in the city is Chase Tower at 500 feet. 1.9 million sf of office space for rapidly growing Devon, largest independent oil and gas company in the world. $750 million dollars. Huge glassy atrium open to public with retail. Construction starts Summer-Fall 2009, complete in 2012. Model showing how this dwarfs the skyline devon_8_20_2008_08.jpg Rendering presskit_06_skyline.jpg I'm definitely okay with the fact that this is extremely tall compared to current buildings... It looks incredible. According to a very astute reporter who knows every developer in town, more highrise proposals are on the way that will help make Devon fit in.

looks really good. Do you know how many stories this tower will have? Its modern not too fancy and respectable. Its good the top is tapered at least gives it some sense of character.

54 floors, which works out to 17 or 18 ft per floor, but it's because the atrium is really tall and there is a design element on top shielding mechanical equipment, so regular floors are 15 ft. It does have some character- don't know if you can tell but it's not a box shaped base, it's triangular, so it has three faces, and it's sitting in a reflecting pool so that it'll look like it's floating. Also they will go for gold or platinum LEED certification

Now that's a sexy looking tower.

Shane453: The sides are triangular... the whole building is more of an oval-like shaped base

    this is pretty lame...

why should a tiny city like OKC with 3 buildings above 400 feet be getting an awesome 925 footer?

    Jealous? 3.gif

It is kind of over the top, but you have to admit Oklahoma City is pretty big (that has multiple meanings). I'm sure that in the future more skyscrapers will start being built in downtown OKC.

well, im jealous of the tower itself, but a good tower is nothing in OKC at the moment. Quantity before Quality IMO. maybe in 50 years it will be a gem of the 'olden days'.

Quantity before quality? Who says that?

The tower has stolen the show lately, but the real story is all of the infill- downtown covered with 4-story loft projects. Rumors are intensifying that two developers on the west side of downtown, near Devon's site, are moving forward with plans for highrise buildings. Definitely could be some more interesting things added to the skyline to make Devon seem more fitting very soon.

I never thought OKC would have a taller building than Pittsburgh... but we won't get any tall buildings here anytime soon (new ones that is) That building is spectacular, and despite its size in comparison to the rest of town, I think it fits in rather nicely.

OKC by no means is tiny.It has 500k people.Thats quite a bit for a core city.and its metro has 1m + people. But the tower is almost finished and its smaller than initially planned,it is now only 850 feet tall.Im thinking the ground in OKC isnt stable enough for anything much taller.

Looks like Shanghai World Financial Center meets Lotte World Super Tower.

Oops, just realized the post dates. What's the thing with bumping the thread after three years, when the tower is in the middle of the construction process? Why not wait until it's finished, or at least topped out? Now well, I'm fine with it. I love a good skyscraper discussion.

Anyway, nice tower. It's a shame that they don't build many tall buildings outside Asia these days. I'm hoping to do something with that in a few years...
