Hi.

I am reinstalling SC4 Deluxe to fix problems about connecting stations. After this, which one should I reinstall first: Rush Hour Patch or NAM (April 2008) ?

Thanks.

I really don't think it matters, but you might want to install the patch first then the NAM because there could be problems down the road.

    Thank's tycoonsimraider123.

I should have checked the NAM's documentation first; it does says that patch should be installed first.

On that note, is there an order to installing the NAM, CAM, RHW, etc.??

I am new to SC and went crazy downloading and now just have a big mess in my plugin folder.

I want to start over, as I don't have many cities, but would like to get it right this time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Pamela

    Hello, pkwild!

Well...the NAM and RHW are related: the latter is an extension of the former, and so you should install the NAM before installing the RHW.  The CAM, on the other hand, is something seperate altogether, so you can install it with or without the NAM.

By the way, welcome to ST 44.gif!

I haven't used the RHW yet, but if its an extension of the NAM which I recently obtained, I think id like to try it. Will the RHW remove or delete or replace anything already in the game or does it only add features?

Well...the RHW actually replaces a network that was left incomplete by Maxis (I believe it was originally supposed to be dirt roads).  The NAM team took that incomplete transport network and created the Alternate Network Tool (ANT).  The ANT looked just like a regular road, but it couldn't interact with any of the other transportation networks in the game, so it was pretty useless except for testing.  Overtime (and after a texture upgrade), the ANT became the RHW, which has since been modified and upgraded to be able to interact with almost all the different networks.

So...to answer your question, the RHW doesn't replace anything you'd use normally, but it'll add a really versatile highway network to your transportation options...especially when you also have the MIS (Modular Interchange System) added onto it.  If you haven't seen it in action, check out haljackey's [Greater Terran Region] CJ.

    Excellent answer!

That looks great on his CJ. So where do I find the MIS or the RHW for that matter?

Any dependancies? or installation or system resource concerns?

You can find the RHW [right here] (don't worry about it saying 1/01/08, it's actually been updated).  The MIS comes with the download, if I read correctly.  Also, to get the look that haljackey has in his CJ, you'll need a texture replacement mod to go with it.  I think the one he uses is the [Euro Texture Replacement]; there's also a rather nice [American Texture Replacement] as well.

If you grab it, simply let the installer do the work for you 2.gif; the only dependency is the latest NAM (April '08) with ANT installed.  And I don't think that the RHW is really that big of a resource hog, so you don't really have to worry about that, either.

<EDIT> Straight from the tankadillo's mouth!  Tarkus is pretty much the authority for NAM and RHW (being one of the masterminds behind it and all), so if he says it, it's true 2.gif.  Thanks for clearing all of that up!

Actually, you won't need the ANT installed anymore.  The ANT doesn't exist anymore, in fact--it was more or less "assimilated" into the RHW as part of the last update.  For the current available version (Version 20), you'll just need to install the NAM.

And the MIS is most definitely included in the RHW download, too.4.gif

Thanks for the "plug" Mas! 3.gif

Just so you know, the texture packs you linked are locked (they were for older RHW versions). You can download the latest asphalt texture by Shadow Assasin on the SC4D LEX, but the site is down right now, so I can't give a link. I suspect it should be up later though.

-Tarkus: I still have the ANT installed 3.gif. For some reason in my SC4, I am still able to use Version 12 in conjunction with version 20. I don't really know why, but it yields some interesting results. 3.gif

    Best,

    -Haljackey
